Wuerl has journalist George Neumayr ejected from Basilica in Washington

Image result for george neumayrCourtesy of Restore DC-Catholicism we find that journalist and writer, George Neumayr, has been booted out of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception at the apparent orders of Cardinal Archbishop of Washington, Donald Wuerl. Neumayr has been critical of Wuerl in the past, but his move to remove from the church a respected journalist reveals more about him than Neumayr who has been reporting on this other "Donald's" lavish Washington apartment.

From Neumayr's Facebook page:
I attended the publicly advertised but sparsely populated event as a member of the press. I showed up in a suit and tie. I stood quietly near the table at which Wuerl was going to sign books. He arrived and I politely shook his hand. He gave me a serpentine grin and moved towards the table. A few moments later two police officers arrived and said to me that the Basilica bookstore was "private property" and that the Church wanted me "escorted off the property."
Why would Cardinal Wuerl have a member of the press removed from Church property by the police during a book signing? Because I have been investigating Wuerl's corrupt use of the faithful's money. He has been furtively using donations to finance a multimillionaire penthouse on Embassy Row. His press secretary has denied every one of my requests for an interview and so I have sought to interview Wuerl and priests with whom he has lived at the penthouse by typical journalistic means. Outrageously, Wuerl has used my mere reporting as a pretext to call the police on me. This is the "transparent," "accessible," and "accountable" Church of Pope Francis? May God help us all.
In all of my years of reporting, I have never seen a churchman as deviously insular and elitist as Wuerl. On the hard-earned donations of the faithful, he has lived like a Borgia-era cardinal, indulging his affluent tastes while eschewing his flock and ignoring or abusing his priests. His exploitation of the faithful's funds is made even more gross by his subversive heterodoxy, on display at the recent Synod on the Family and in his defense of Communion for pro-abortion pols and other checkered Catholics. He takes the faithful's money to bankroll his ecclesiastical perks while seeking to separate those faithful from the orthodox teachings of the Church.
So if any of you lawyers/media experts/journalists want to lend me a hand as I defend my rights as a journalist/Catholic and expose the corruption of Cardinal Wuerl, please send me an e-mail. Thanks.
Also, look tomorrow for my interview on this subject with ChurchMilitant TV.

Wuerl has turned 75; it's my bet that Francis will keep him around for a while yet.

More on Cardinal Wuerl can be read at the previous posts found here.

Why is a Cardinal of the Catholic Church signing books? Will these books be relics one day? Does anyone out there have a book signed by St. Pope John Paul II? or Cardinal Ratzinger, our now Pope Emeritus?

I believe the time has come for George Neumayr to take this incident "to the Church". There must be canonical provision for the lay Faithful to defend themselves from an unjust attack from another Catholic, especially a powerful churchman who is abusing his power.

Anonymous 7:09, do you usually strain at gnats? Have you not just read of the overwhelming abuse of his office Wuerl engages in and you are angry about a book signing?

The cardinal is fair game for many criticisms, but calling his residence in the third floor of an old rectory a "penthouse" is a misnomer.

Neumayr should have told him that he converted to Islam. Might have been invited to the penthouse.

It's a pity they were not so fast calling the police when child abuse was reported .

You are stepping on Cardinal Wuerl's toes. His reaction is critical to much more that underlines that you have opened a can of rotten worms. For him to call the police to embarrass you shows his disdain for your accurate reporting. These dirty deeds of Cardinal Wuerl is eventually coming to an end perhaps with the Justice of the Police taking away this wicked Cardinal Wuerl in handcuffs in the walk of shame that this fraud of a Cardinal greatly deserves. It just highlights Cardinal Wuerl's Year of Mercy is a fraud.

too bad no one was stepping on Cardinal McCarrick's toes when he was Cardinal in D.C. and wiggling his toes in the sand down on Turks and Caicos islands....now THAT would have been a story for the ages...still COULD be if someone wants to dig it up (figuratively, but literally soon).

This guy is a libertarian heretic who denies the Church's teaching that all men have a right to healthcare and a just wage. He should be sent a list of propositions to adhere to and if he denies them, he should be promptly excommunicated.

What about Mr. Neumayr's civil rights? As a journalist & a Catholic he had a right to be present. I doubt that Cardinal Wuerl was in a position to call the police as he hadn't committed a crime. Just because you don't like someone is not sufficient cause to call the police to escort anyone from the precincts of a church, especially when that church has been built by donations from its faithful members. It is not the private property of Cardinal Wuerl so I am sure Mr. Neumayr has a good case against him.

Where does the Church teach all men have a "right" to healthcare? We should have the right to access healthcare, but no man has a right to demand free healthcare, anymore the right to demand free food, clothes, homes, etc...

I think we have all forgotten that Card Wuerl was mentored by Card Hunthausen. I can tell you without lying Card Hunthausen was removed from office after 2 faithful Catholics a doctor from Federal Way and a woman from Bellvue Washington spent $500K in the Church Courts to remove from office. Wuerl also caused undue grief when he was moved from west Coast to the Midwest when he broke a promise to a old priest. He was a good study of his mentor Hunthausen. Challenge a Winnipeg Catholic Magazine in the late 1990's covered his early career and he was never merciful
