Just how big is the taxpayer bailout of Cardinal Collins and the Archdiocese of Toronto?

Over the last few months, this writer has indicated in various posts that one must "follow the money" and it will explain Tom "No Mass For You" Collins' bowing down to what he termed, "virtuous" public health officials and has gone so far as to actually suspend the public offering of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, notwithstanding, Chairman Ford's fascist actions of limiting church attendance to ten persons.

LifeSiteNews has a full report on how much tax money the Roman Catholic Episcopal CORPORATION for the Archdiocese of Toronto has received from Cesare.

I wish more Catholics in Toronto loved Mass more than they fear (a tiny risk of) death

The title of this post is borrowed from Dorothy Cummings at LifeSiteNews,  I wish more Catholics in Scotland love the Mass more than they fear (a tiny risk of) death.

The communists in Poland could not shut down the Holy Mass. Yet, here in Ontario, many parts of Canada and the United States our politicians have done it and where they have not, our bishops and Cardinals, such as Cardinal Thomas Collins here in Toronto have done what the communists in Poland could not do.

If Catholics in Toronto rose up and demanded that Cardinal Collins open churches for Mass, even at ten, and threw down the gauntlet to Ford that we would be reestablishing Mass at 30% and that he must immediately declare church attendance as "essential," do you not think he would do something? The man is fundamentally weak and ineffectual - that has been proven by his dithering and reversing of decisions in the past. True to form, this kind of personality can also be tyrannical, as has happened recently with a certain priest forced into early retirement. If you've watched the leaked webinar, he repeatedly said, "I will shut you down, I will shut you down, I will shut you down."

Toronto Catholics, what are you doing? Do you care about the Mass more than the fear of really, really, really tiny risk of illness or death where there is no documented evidence that any of this came from the Holy Mass?

Arrogant and pompouse, the Bargolian rat Sorondo proves he is one!

https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/exclusive-vatican-bishop-defends-giving-communion-to-pro-abortion-argentine-president-and-mistress

Oh my, this is just too good. Hats off to Diane Montagna at LifeSiteNews who no doubt used her charms (and I mean that in the most respectful and positive way) to bring out the worst in some Argentinean scumbag inappropriately ordained a priest who grew up to be a most corrupt ecclesiast and butt-kisses the global elite on behalf of a most disgraceful Argentinian bumpkin who usurped the Seat of Peter and remains on it - an un-lanced boil.

From the get-go, Montagna does not shy away from the tough questions and just does it with such humility and directness that the apostate Sorondo is flummoxed. So much so, he chooses instead to insult her - calling her "lady" and then that she is a "fanatic."

I think the best part was when Ms Montagna corrected the idiot Sorondo on Holy Scripture.  He continues on to insult Donald J. Trump for not being Catholic, Cardinal Raymond Burke for being one and then goes on to endorse sacrilege and unworthy reception of Holy Communion.

DM: I’m just thinking of the good of his soul – and for the good of her soul. St. Paul is very clear about how we can eat condemnation upon (cf 1 Cor. 1:29)…

BS: Yes, but St. Paul is very clear also to say, “my only judge is my conscience.” St. Paul said it.

DM: No, no he didn’t. He said that the Lord is his judge. He said: “Not even I can judge myself. The Lord is my judge” (cf. 1 Cor. 4:4).

BS: The Lord is my judge, but the Lord is in my conscience.

DM: The Lord isn’t necessarily if we don’t have …

BS: He’s not in the conscience of the bishop or the cardinal…

DM: But if you don’t have a well-formed conscience where divine grace is actually active, then your conscience is probably lying to you. The darkness of the intellect…

BS: This is your interpretation. Sorry, I don’t want to continue to speak with you because you are completely… and you want only to make polemics. You need to be very happy and to say to your Cardinal Burke, “Look the president [of Argentina] goes to the Mass.” This is the important fact. And your president did not go to the Mass.

DM: What do you mean, my president?

BS: Say this.

DM: My president in terms of President Trump?

BS: Yes. He does not go to the Mass.

DM: But he’s not Catholic. He’s not Catholic.

BS: Exactly! This is a great difference.

DM: He’s not Catholic. But President Trump went in January... he was the first U.S. president ever to go to the March for Life with thousands and thousands of young people.

BS: Yeah, to have the votes of the Catholics. To have the votes of the Catholics. Say this to Cardinal Burke. And in fact, I heard that Cardinal Burke is against President Trump.

DM: Is against?

BS: Yes. Yes.

DM: Or he went to see him?

BS: He is against many things that [Trump] says.

DM: Well, you don’t have to agree with everything President Trump does. But he’s saving babies. He’s saving babies.

BS: Please, lady, understand the Catholic ideas and do not be fanatic, do not be fanatic.

DM: Okay…

BS: If you continue to speak with me, do not be fanatic. Try to use reason.

DM: I am. Okay. Thank you very much.

Bergoglio has succeeded in surrounding himself with the most corrupt and vile men. This Sorondo probably takes the cake and one wonders what else.

Read the whole article and the interview. It is just so bad and so good, all at the same time.

Oh my, the rats are so exposed.

Larry Richards, a clericalist bully not dissimilar to Rosica - what is this pathology afflicting the celebrity priest?

Updated: ChurchMilitantTV to sue Larry Richards and the Diocese of Erie

Larry Richards, a celebrity priest has been in the news lately. He lied about those at Church Militant and is now threatening parishioners. His treatment of Steve Jalsevac is disgraceful.

Like Thomas Rosica, Larry Richards is a clericalist and a rage filled bully.

If you priests cannot control yourselves get out of ministry.

I believe we can quickly determine the pathology behind these malefactors.

World's leading Pro-Life leaders accuse Bergoglio and Catholic leaders of being unfaithful to doctrine

PLEDGE OF FIDELITY
FAITHFUL TO TRUE DOCTRINE, NOT TO ERRING PASTORS

Pledge of fidelity to the authentic teaching of the Church by pro-life and pro-family leaders

SUPPORT THE PLEDGE
The number of innocent children killed by abortion during the last century is greater than that of all the human beings who have died in all the wars in recorded history. The last fifty years have witnessed a continual escalation in attacks on the structure of the family as designed and willed by God, which provides the best environment for human flourishing, and, especially, for the education and formation of children. Divorce, contraception, acceptance of homosexual acts and unions, and the spread of “gender ideology” have all done immeasurable damage to the family, and its most vulnerable members.

Over the last fifty years the pro-life and pro-family movement has grown in both size and scope in order to confront these grave evils, which threaten both the temporal and eternal good of mankind. Our movement comprises men and women of good will from a wide variety of religious backgrounds. We are brought together in our defence of the family, and of the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters, through obedience to the natural law, which is written on all our hearts (cf. Rm 2:15). However, throughout this last half century the pro-life and pro-family movement has relied in a particular way on the immutable teaching of the Catholic Church, which affirms the moral law with the greatest clarity.

It is therefore with great sorrow that during recent years we have witnessed doctrinal and moral clarity, on issues relating to the protection of human life and the family, increasingly being replaced by ambiguity, and even by doctrines directly contrary to the teaching of Christ and the precepts of the natural law.

A Filial Appeal, delivered to Pope Francis in September 2015, was signed by around 900,000 people from all over the world and a “Declaration of fidelity to the unchangeable teaching of the Church on matrimony” was presented in 2016. On 19 September 2016 four cardinals submitted five dubia to Pope Francis, and to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, asking for the clarification of certain points of doctrine in the post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia. In June 2017, the cardinals made public their request for an audience, which had been presented to the Pope by Cardinal Carlo Caffarra on 25 April 2017, but which, like the dubia, had received no response. On 23 September 2017 a Correctio filialis de haeresibus propagatis was issued by 62 Catholic theologians and academics “on account of the propagation of heresies effected by the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia and by other words, deeds and omissions” of Pope Francis. By 4 November 2017, 250 theologians, priests, professors and scholars of all nationalities had pledged their support to the Correctio. The disorder within the Church is increasing, as witnessed by a letter recently sent to Pope Francis by a prominent theologian, which, the author stated, was prompted by “turmoil within the Church today, a chaos and an uncertainty that I felt Pope Francis had himself caused.” 1

As Catholic pro-life and pro-family leaders, we are obliged to highlight numerous additional statements and actions, which have had a particularly damaging impact on our work for the protection of unborn children and the family in recent years. Representative examples include:

  • statements and actions which contradict the Church’s teaching on the intrinsic evil of contraceptive acts;
  • statements and actions which contradict the Church’s teaching on the nature of marriage and the intrinsic evil of sexual acts outside the union of marriage;
  • the approval of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which effectively call for member states to achieve universal access to abortion, contraception and sex education by 2030;
  • the approach adopted towards sex education, particularly in chapter 7 of Amoris Laetitia and in The Meeting Point programme produced by the Pontifical Council for the Family.

As leaders within the pro-life and pro-family movement or leaders of lay movements concerned with the defence and diffusion of Catholic moral and social teaching, we have witnessed first-hand the harm and confusion caused by such teaching and actions. In order to fulfil our responsibilities to those whom we have pledged to protect, in particular, unborn children and those made especially vulnerable by the breakdown of the family, we must provide clarity on our position on these issues. We must also provide leadership to those within our movement who look to us for guidance and advice.

For this reason, we wish to make clear our unchanging adherence to the fundamental moral positions outlined below:

  • there exist certain acts which are intrinsically evil and which it is always forbidden to commit;
  • the direct killing of an innocent human being is always gravely immoral; consequently, abortion, euthanasia and assisted suicide are intrinsically evil acts;
  • marriage is the exclusive and indissoluble union of one man and one woman; all sexual acts outside of marriage, including in all forms of non-marital union, are intrinsically evil and gravely injurious to individuals and to society;
  • adultery is a grave sin, and those who live in adultery cannot be admitted to the sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion, until such time as they repent and amend their lives;
  • parents are the primary educators of their children, and the provision of sex education must be undertaken by parents or, in certain circumstances, “in educational centres chosen and controlled by them”;
  • the separation of the procreative and unitive ends of the sexual act by contraceptive methods is intrinsically evil and has devastating consequences for the family, for society and for the Church;
  • methods of artificial reproduction are gravely immoral as they separate procreation from the sexual act and, in the great majority of cases, lead directly to the destruction of human life in its earliest stages;
  • there are only two sexes, male and female, each of which possesses the complementary characteristics and differences that are proper to them;
  • homosexual acts are intrinsically evil, and no form of union between persons of the same sex can be approved in any way.

As Catholic pro-life and pro-family leaders we must remain faithful to Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who has entrusted the deposit of faith to his Church. We “are obliged to yield to God the revealer full submission of intellect and will by faith.” We fully assent to all those things “which are contained in the word of God as found in Scripture and Tradition, and which are proposed by the Church as matters to be believed as divinely revealed, whether by her solemn judgment or in her ordinary and universal magisterium.”

We pledge our full obedience to the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in the legitimate exercise of its authority. However, nothing will ever persuade us, or compel us, to abandon or contradict any article of the Catholic faith or any truth definitively established. If there is any conflict between the words and acts of any member of the hierarchy, even the pope, and the doctrine that the Church has always taught, we will remain faithful to the perennial teaching of the Church. If we were to depart from the Catholic faith, we would depart from Jesus Christ, to Whom we wish to be united for all eternity.

We, the undersigned, pledge that we will continue to teach and propagate the above moral principles, and every other authentic teaching of the Catholic Church, and will never, for any reason, depart from them.

Poor widdle Jeffrey Sachs - did your widdle feelings get hurt when confronted with the truth?

Featured Image

The only thing more disgusting than this Antichrist at a Vatican conference are the Catholic prelates and Pope who permitted this monster to be there.

World-renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs yells at Vatican reporter: ‘You’re disgusting’

ROME, November 6, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – “You’re disgusting, you’re disgusting, disgusting,” yelled world-renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs in the hallowed halls of the Casina Pio IV in the heart of the Vatican Gardens. Sachs, the Columbia University professor whose monthly newspaper columns appear in more than 100 countries, was in a full rage, threateningly pointing his finger in the face of this reporter during his outburst. I sat there rather stunned but also, I must admit, somewhat intimidated since this man marches in echelons of power far above the top one percent he is so fond of disparaging.
A collaborator with George Soros, Sachs is known around the world as a guru on climate change, sustainable development -- and to pro-lifers -- population control and abortion. It is this pro-life concern that was the source of his rage. He was railing against me because of an article I wrote the previous day in which the headline referred to him as a “pro-abortion globalist.”

Persecution of Catholics on the uptick by the Bergoglian regime - now we are a "cancer"

In what can only be described as a regime rather than a papacy, it is quite obvious to all that are prepared to take their heads out of the sand that it is open season on faithful Catholics.

We see an unending and almost obsessive stream of publicity from the homosexualist James Martin, S.J., and a string of supporters lined up behind him including now Robert McElroy, Bishop of San Diego. This McElroy puts forward the notion that one who upholds the Catholic truth, that sodomitical acts are grievous sins in the eyes of God and one of the four sins which "cry out to heaven for justice," are a "cancer" in the Church and opposed to Pope Francis.

Can you imagine that a Bishop of the Catholic Church of Christ would write this?

It would be too easy to say that Robert McElroy is badly-formed or deluded. No; the man is a bishop, he is educated he can only be described as evil, a wolf, a son of Satan, he is not a true shepherd of Jesus Christ. Robert McElroy is a man that is going to Hell for the souls he is leading there.

If you are a cancer call McElroy and let him know at 858-490-8300.

What these filthy malefactors are doing is, as Father Zed calls it, outright "bullying."

I stand with Jesus Christ, and His Church and its magisterial teaching over time. I do not stand with a pope, bishop or priest who does not. If this puts this writer against the current claimant to the Chair of Peter, then so be it.

Professor Claudio Pierantoni is a scholar of patristics and professor of medieval philosophy at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago. In this report on LifeSiteNews, Pierantoni explores the dismissal of Dr. Josef Siefert from the Catholic university at Granada, in Spain. He writes of this as an "official persecution" under the regime of Jorge Bergoglio.

Make no mistake, this is true in every way and I can speak of this personally and directly some of which has been made public on this blog and much of which cannot be made public. It is diabolical, hypocritical and deceitful and I can assure you, they will not triumph.

Let it be clear to Martin, McElroy, Bergoglio, Spadaro, Maradiaga and the rest of these malefactors, - we're not going anywhere and we are on the side of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We will not leave our Holy Mother, the Church, we will not abandon Her and, with the help of God, we will defeat you.

These filthy priests and prelates must repent and do reparation before it is too late. Their judgement will be swift, severe and eternal.

Pope Bergoglio appoints abortion advocate to Life Academy - Cardinal accuses Catholics of not understanding "love"

Image

The Pope of Rome has appointed a pro-abortion advocate Oxford Professor, Nigel Biggar to the Pontifical Academy for Life.

Archbishop Paglia, an alleged apostle of Jesus Christ accuses Catholics who have raised their voices at this outrageous Bergoglian action as being "sensationalist," and not understanding what "love" is. This from the putrid example of a man who commissioned homosexualist erotic art for his Cathedral and wears funny sunglasses whilst swishing his drink.

Paglia is a disgrace, a man unfit for the high office he holds.

You must love as he reminds us all on Twitter.

Do you realize the crisis that the Church is in? Some will say, "the Church has always been in crisis." No, this is not true. They are ignorant of history. They are truly ignorant of the faith.

The saying, "the fish rots from the head first" has never been more appropriate then it is right now.

Please try to defend your rotten fruit of Vatican II or your Novus Ordoist culture.

You can't.

What Moe says

John-Henry Westen is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of LifeSiteNews. He and Steve Jalsevac have done tremendous work on behalf of all of us in the matters of life, family and culture. Recently, John-Henry spoke at the Bringing America Back to Life conference in Ohio. John's bio begins with "He and his wife Dianne and their eight children live in the Ottawa Valley."

I had a chuckle after reading that, as LifeSiteNews was once mocked and dismissed for being run out of some basement in the Ottawa Valley.

Well, with 60,000,000 readers; all I have to say, is, that's one heck of a basement operation!

The Toronto Star has closed its massive robotic printing plant. Newspapers around the world are doing the same and slimming down and going bankrupt. The media has changed. You don't need to read the manufactured stories and fake news that the elites want to shove down your throats.

The truth is out there, you just have to click for it and use your mind to discern.

It causes some to seethe with anger, jealousy and rage.

Just as this blog has done as the readers still keep on coming and we approach 3,600,000. Small in comparison to LifeSiteNews and OnePeterFive, to be sure, but not an embarassing or insignificant number considering it is run from a leather lazy boy in the family room.

Quod scripsi, scripsi.

Now back to those who rage and seethe; do you want to confound them even more?

Give to LifeSiteNews.

And listen to this talk by John-Henry.

Vox

Dear Friends of Vox Cantoris,
First, a quick update: Today is Day 3 of our crucial spring fundraising campaign, and we have raised $20,223 of our $225,000 minimum goal. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far! (To donate, click here)
If you’ve been reading LifeSite for a while, you already know how vitally important our quarterly fundraising campaigns are to our mission.
Without the incredible generosity of thousands of readers like you, we simply could not continue functioning or reach the literally tens of millions of people who visit our site every year to learn the TRUTH about abortion, marriage, faith, freedom and so much more!
But if you’re newer to LifeSite maybe you’re wondering why you should consider donating to our Spring campaign, and what the money will be used for.
Those are good questions, and I’m happy to answer them!

Will you help us reach the goal today with a gift of $35 or more?
DONATE NOW
In some ways, the answer is pretty straightforward.
LifeSite is not just the #1 most-read pro-life website on the Internet. We’re also the only global news agency with a team of trained, professional, full-time journalists whose job it is to provide the BIG PICTURE perspective of the battle between the Culture of Life and the Culture of Death!
There is literally no other news website where you will find original, in-depth, professional reporting on every aspect of the culture wars around the globe from a fearlessly, and uncompromisingly pro-life and pro-family perspective.
At LifeSite we don’t just cover abortion, but also marriage, the growing threat of gender ideology, euthanasia and assisted suicide, religious freedom, embryonic research, and countless other topics. And we reveal and educate our readers about how all of these attacks by advocates of the Culture of Death are inter-related!
As the battle between the Culture of Life and the Culture of Death heats up, LifeSite has continued to expand to meet new needs, growing our staff, launching new initiatives, and redoubling our efforts to reach tens of millions more people with the life-giving message of life and family.
LifeSite now consists of 25+ full- and part-time professional pro-life journalists, editors, and support staff - dedicated 100% to fighting for life, family, faith, and freedom! Meanwhile, our sprawling website now hosts over 60,000 articles going back 20 years, and welcomes some 25-30 MILLION visitors every single year!
And yet, with the growing chaos and confusion in the culture, and even within the Church, it has become clear that there’s still so, so much more that we need to do!
Indeed, what you might not know is that LifeSite is also much more than a pro-life and pro-family news agency!
In fact, there’s so much going on at LifeSite these days, that it can be difficult to keep up.
Some of the other projects we have either launched or are involved in right now are:
  • LifePetitions.com - a complex, cutting edge pro-life petition platform built by LifeSite, which has already been used by literally millions of pro-life grassroots activists like you to create real pro-life and pro-family change on the ground
  • LifeFacts - LifeSite’s ambitious, ongoing effort to compile in one place the absolute best information and research on abortion, and related pro-life issues
  • Faithful Insight - A magazine launched by LifeSite aimed at high-information Catholic readers who are interested in getting the absolute best information about what’s going on at the Vatican and in the Church around the world related to the faith, life, family and freedom.
  • Voice of the Family - A coalition of lay pro-family groups co-founded by LifeSite in response to the confusion surrounding the Synods on the Family at the Vatican, and intended to defend traditional Catholic teaching on marriage and the family
  • The Rome Life Forum - An annual conference in the heart of the Vatican, founded by LifeSite and hosted by Voice of the Family, that brings together global pro-life and pro-family activists, as well as faithful members of the Catholic hierarchy like Cardinal Raymond Burke, and Cardinal George Pell
And then, on top of that, there’s the speaking engagements, conferences, media appearances, vital networking and strategizing with other pro-life leaders, long-term research projects on which our staff spend weeks or even months - all dedicated to one simple mission: to facilitate and generate cultural change for the protection and promotion of life and family.
For the past 20 years, LifeSite has been an almost completely crowd-funded independent news agency! It is only thanks to that growing army of many thousands of committed readers and supporters like you that any of this has been possible.
Meanwhile, the loyal support of our thousands of donors has left us completely free free to report the hard (and, sadly, in our increasingly secular culture, often unpopular!) truths, without having to worry about losing corporate sponsors, government grants, big advertisers, or other financial interests!
When it comes to our mission, LifeSite is answerable to one person only: God, who is TRUTH.
Please, support this truth-mission today with a donation to our Spring campaign
DONATE NOW
I always like to remind readers, especially those new to LifeSite, that by supporting the online campaigns, every dollar you give goes straight to funding this unique news service. Your donation does not go towards costly direct-mail fundraising.
Nearly all of our staff work from their homes, so your donation is not used to pay for large overhead costs associated with maintaining office space.
Your donation directly supports the mission of LifeSiteNews: producing and delivering fearless, hard-hitting, truthful pro-life and pro-family news, analysis and commentary!
Here’s something to think about: today, between 150,000 and 200,000 people will visit our website to access our news reports.
They will be leaders, activists, parents, politicians, and everyday readers who want to stay informed on breaking, always reliable, professionally-researched news related to life and family issues - written by journalists who are far freer than most to report the whole truth.
If even just 1% of the visitors to our website today alone donated $100 or more, we would reach our goal in a single day!
DONATE NOW
If just 10% of our visitors could give as little as $10, we would reach our goal!
Our readers have never let us down. In a world where the mainstream media controls so much of the information that people access, our readers have never taken LifeSite for granted!
We, in turn, never take your support for granted! Every single donation we receive inspires us to work harder to spread the beautiful truth of the Gospel of Life to as many people as possible!
Thank you in advance for whatever you decide to give towards the LifeSite mission!

Pope Francis as pacifist, ecologist and ecumenist

Bishop of Rome Bergoglio has issued a bulletin to the Meeting of Popular Movements meeting in Modesto, California. It is ironic considering that he previously equated the populism that elected Donald J. Trump as President of the United States with the national socialism of Adolf Hitler, but gives a warm statement to these populists. Clearly, Bergoglio does not oppose populism, only the populism that doesn't agree with his form of Peronist-Marxist populism. Reading the diatribe, one clearly sees it as just one more poorly veiled attack on the American President.

The whole bulletin, a diatribe of leftist excrement that could have been written by George Soros,  can be read on the Vatican web page. He also states in this Marxist social justice essay that, "Muslim terrorism does not exist." Tell that to the people who have suffered from Muslim terrorism.

I know that you have committed yourselves to fight for social justice, to defend our Sister Mother Earth and to stand alongside migrants. I want to reaffirm your choice and share two reflections in this regard.
First, the ecological crisis is real. “A very solid scientific consensus indicates that we are presently witnessing a disturbing warming of the climatic system.”  Science is not the only form of knowledge, it is true. It is also true that science is not necessarily “neutral”—many times it conceals ideological views or economic interests. However, we also know what happens when we deny science and disregard the voice of Nature. I make my own everything that concerns us as Catholics. Let us not fall into denial. Time is running out. Let us act. I ask you again—all of you, people of all backgrounds including native people, pastors, political leaders—to defend Creation.

The Bishop of Rome cannot compel you, he cannot compel me to believe junk science. There is strong evidence that the world has been cooling for nearly a decade due to sun spot activity. It is a geological fact that fossils of ferns and palms exist in Greenland and northern Alberta indicating that at another time in history, the earth was warmer than it is now. Climate changes, period.

He cannot compel you he cannot compel me to refuse to state that millions of Muslims are terrorists or support terrorism. There are 1.5 billion in the world, if 1% support terrorism, that is 15,000,000 and there is more than 1%. But there are no Muslim terrorists.

Now, to the real matter at hand.

How sad, how distressing that Holy Mother Church has sold out to the world. How much of a betrayal that the very Bishop of Rome himself, should buy in to false oecumenism, junk environmental science and misplaced pacifism while Christians, and in fact, many Muslims, lose their peace, their property and their lives to radical Islamic terrorists.

Nearly ten years ago, on March 1, 2007, John Henry Westen of LifeSiteNews penned a story about the Lenten retreat of Pope Benedict XVI and the invited retreat master, the retired Archbishop of Bologna, Giacommo Biffi.

We wrote previously about Cardinal Biffi, at this link, and about a subject dear to him, the Russian, Vladimir Sergeevic Soloviev and his writings on the Antichrist.

Weston writes:
This year’s selection when it became known created a stir since Cardinal Biffi, while he is known for orthodox faith and frank words, is most well known, at least in the secular media, for his preaching on the Antichrist.  In fact, the Times of London reported in 2004 that the Cardinal described the Antichrist as "walking among us".
The Lenten retreat did not disappoint.  Cardinal Biffi picked up on his oft repeated theme of the Antichrist, basing his remarks on the works of Vladimir Soloviev, a Russian religious philosopher who has received praise from Pope Benedict prior to his elevation to the pontificate.

Quoting Soloviev, the Cardinal said "the Antichrist presents himself as pacifist, ecologist and ecumenist."
"He will convoke an ecumenical council and will seek the consensus of all the Christian confessions, granting something to each one. The masses will follow him, with the exception of small groups of Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants," he said according to a Zenit translation of a Vatican Radio summary here: http://www.radiovaticana.org/it1/Articolo.asp?c=120479 (no longer there)
In his "Tale of the Antichrist" Solovyov foresees that a small group of Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants will resist and will say to the Antichrist: "You give us everything, except what interests us, Jesus Christ".   For Cardinal Biffi, this narrative is a warning: "Today, in fact, we run the risk of having a Christianity which puts aside Jesus with his cross and resurrection."
The 78-year-old cardinal added that if Christians "limited themselves to speaking of shared values they would be more accepted on television programs and in social groups. But in this way, they will have renounced Jesus, the overwhelming reality of the resurrection."
...
Cardinal Biffi affirmed that "if Christianity—on opening itself to the world and dialoguing with all—dilutes the salvific event, it closes itself to a personal relationship with Jesus and places itself on the side of the Antichrist."
