Giovanni Vianini's Schola fired!

Outrageous!

The work that this man has done viewed worldwide for the restoration of sacred chant has been legendary.

What a disgusting turn of events.

Folk Music Instead of Choral --- Schola Gregoriana Mediolanensis Shown the Door

Schola Gregoriana Mediolanensis
(Milan) The famous Schola Gregoriana Mediolanensis of Milan, which is dedicated to the care of Gregorian and Ambrosian chant, has been removed from the Basilica of San Vittore al Corpo from Milan to make room for folk singing.
The Choral Schola founded in 1980 by the famous musician Giovanni Vianini and since then,  choral schola director, consists of a men and a women's schola, which currently includes 20 singers each. Together they form a mixed choir. Vianini is internationally recognized as a choral expert.

It was appealing to elitists, so room needed to be made for populists. Don't you understand? - if you do not smell of sheep, possibly at all times, there is no place for you in the Church. God forbid you should aspire to higher things or exhibit sophisticated tastes. That is so unchristian-like.

This is disgraceful - but as Dorota writes - a sign of the unenlightened times in which we live. A fish rots from the head.
There is no room for beautiful choral spiritual works in an environment which is concerned with a No Frills and grudgingly basic presentation of the Glory and Wonder of God. An ordinary table for an altar - dressed with an ordinary table cloth. The Blessed Sacrament "tucked away" in solitary confinement in a side chapel, or worse (and I promise you this is true here in Australia because I have seen it with my own eyes!) in a small side room with a closed door, kept locked for "security reasons"! You have to ask for the key! Holy Icons taken off the walls in the Church and curtains - with different colours (mind you!) denoting the liturgical season - hanging behind the table altar - the list goes on. No wonder that the beauty of angelic choirs is whisked away from us! But they cannot wrest the Holy Spirit within away from us - not without bloodshed!!!!

A "twist of fate" that this downgrade of the sacred music occurs in the very See of the former Archbishop of Milan, who would later verge on apologizing to the "sheep" and "common people" for his more global sweep of banality, that is the dismissal of chant from the Mass under his guidance as pope. Strange irony.
