Cupich is an ecclesiastical vandal!

I'll let John explain.

With clergy like Cupich, Rosica and Kasper, to name but a few obstinately errant souls disfiguring the face of the Church by their actions, the work of promoting joyful orthodoxy—i.e., the promotion of the Gospel not compromised by worldly men—requires unceasing vigilance and energy to overcome the ill effects of theological/liturgical error promoted by such misguided men.

I'm fairly confident that, except for a few cruel-minded individuals who masquerade as disciples of the Lord but behave like trolls who elevate themselves by attacking the dignity of others, no faithful Christian takes delight in pointing out a brother's faults, even when a brother (or sister) makes the task very difficult by his stubborn pride that has produced in him a hard heart which freezes him in sinful behaviour, makes him resistant to change and causes him to lash out at those who merely offer fraternal correction or a reasoned perspective on their bad behaviour. Fr. Rosica's unfair and uncharitable attacks on faithful bloggers come to mind. We should be ever mindful of (and grateful for) the grace of God which moves us to first look at our own failings and which then motivates us to proceed in an objective manner to call a brother back to the Truth.

Given that he is a shepherd of souls, Archbishop Cupich is especially at risk of judgement by a much, much higher Authority. His limp witness to the sanctity of life from conception to natural death has been unsettling, to say the least.

At about the 16:20 mark, John Vennari declared that His Holiness Pope Francis will not fight against such evils as abortion, homosexual unions, and "divorce and remarriage".

John Vennari's statement is false. Pope Francis has time and again referenced and opposed the evils that John Vennari noted.

Example: Abortion. The following is list of just some of the many times that Pope Francis has opposed abortion via powerful declarations. I posted the list to Vox's blog on August 13, 2015 A.D. Pope Francis has since added condemnations of abortion to the list.

John Vennari claimed that His Holiness Pope Francis won't defend and promote anti-family, anti-societal evils...such as abortion and homosexuality.

Well, there is a very holy man and outstanding Cardinal who disagrees with John Vennari. I will throw in with Cardinal Sarah.

In May 2016 A.D., at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, Cardinal Robert Sarah declared the following:

"In his post-synodal Exhortation on the Family, Amoris Lætitia (“The Joy of Love”), Pope Francis states clearly: “In no way must the Church desist from proposing the full ideal of marriage, God’s plan in all its grandeur … proposing less than what Jesus offers to the human being.”

"This is why the Holy Father openly and vigorously defends Church teaching on contraception, abortion, homosexuality, reproductive technologies, the education of children and much more."

I think the point John Vennari is making is that Archbishop Cupich should never have been appointed as successor to Cardinal George in Chicago nor to the recent position of Member of the Congregation of Bishops which provides him with the added authority of having a voice in the selection of future Bishops. PF is responsible for both appointments, the buck therefore rests with him.

The obfuscation of this Papacy has got to the level where no Orthodox Catholic can believe anything coming directly from PF or Vatican spokesmen. The faith is disintegrating before our eyes. Appeals, petitions both private & public are being made daily yet this Modernist/Satanic Cabal resists. None of them hold the True Faith so why are they allowed by our statutes to hold any type of Office within the CC?

The Holy Ghost did not appoint PF to the Seat of Peter - Lucifer did. Why can't sufficient Cardinals & Bishops open their eyes/minds/hearts/souls & declare that to be a fact & act to rid us of them?

Michael Dowd said...

Mark Thomas re. Cardinal Sarah. I think Cardinal Sarah was mainly expressing hope when he said: "This is why the Holy Father openly and vigorously defends Church teaching on contraception, abortion, homosexuality, reproductive technologies, the education of children and much more." Our cue to the attitude of hopefulness was Cardinal Sarah's use of the words "(The Pope) 'openly' and 'vigorously' defends Church teaching. Most folks following these orthodox sites would find such a statement amusing if not ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

Pope Francis had the opportunity to "vigorously" oppose contraception, homosexuality, and abortion when he appeared before the U.S. Congress.

After his speech, his listeners there applauded him.

That fact alone tells us whether those things were "vigorously" opposed.

Mark Thomas said...

Michael Dowd, I don't have a reason to spin Cardinal Sarah's comments in question. He said what he said in plain fashion. I accept his remarks as is.

Folks who find amusing the notion that His Holiness Pope Francis "openly and vigorously defends Church teaching on contraception, abortion, homosexuality, reproductive technologies, the education of children and much more" have obviously not read/heard the same remarks from Pope Francis that Cardinal Sarah and I have encountered.

Said folks are ignorant of the facts.

How did the laughing folks miss Pope Francis' 2014 A.D. powerful condemnation of abortion (just one of his many condemnations of abortion), to which everybody from LifeSite News to secular news media outlets called widespread attention?

Pope Francis' powerful condemnation of abortion referenced Vatican II's forceful denunciation of abortion as an "abominable crime".

How on earth did the laughing folks miss that? Note to laughing folks: Hiliary White reported that story for LifeSite News.

-- Pope Francis calls abortion an ‘abominable crime’ in strongest remarks to date

I guess that the laughing folks are ignorant of the powerful pro-life, pro-family, pro-marriage declarations that Pope Francis has uttered numerous times...such as during his visit to the Philippines.

How did they miss that?

I guess that the laughing folks are also unaware of Pope Francis' condemnation of homosexual unions and attacks against family and marriage by "powerful forces which threaten to disfigure God’s plan for creation..."

How did the laughing folks miss that?

How did the laughing folks miss, as Cardinal Sarah noted, Pope Francis' vigorous defense of the Church's teaching on the education of children? Let us see what Pope Francis said about that.

"I feel it important to reiterate that the overall education of children is a “most serious duty” and at the same time a “primary right” of parents. This is not just a task or a burden, but an essential and inalienable right that parents are called to defend and of which no one may claim to deprive them.

"The State offers educational programs in a subsidiary way, supporting the parents in their indeclinable role; parents themselves enjoy the right to choose freely the kind of education – accessible and of good quality – which they wish to give their children in accordance with their convictions."

The education of children is an "essential and inalienable right" of parents "of which no one may claim to deprive them", according to Pope Francis.

How did the laughing folks miss that?

I urge the laughing folks to curtail their laughter for a time so that they may, as Cardinal Sarah noted, avail themselves to Pope Francis vigorous promotion of Church teaching "on contraception, abortion, homosexuality, reproductive technologies, the education of children and much more".

"In a speech to the nation’s Catholic bishops, Pope Francis encouraged them to remain vigilant in their opposition to abortion and he listed unborn children among those innocent people who the bishops must keep at the top of the priority list of people who deserve protection.

"Father Frank Pavone, the head of Priests for Life, told LifeNews he is encouraged by the Pope’s remarks but before the bishops and at the White House this morning.

“Anyone who was listening to the words of Pope Francis heard, as I did, very profound implications for our fight against abortion,” he said.

“When the pope spoke of having an opportunity to offer ‘words of encouragement’ to lawmakers as they guide the nation in fidelity ‘to its founding principles,’ he was clearly referring to the Declaration of Independence and its guarantee, first and foremost, of the right to life.”

Pavone concluded: “And when he spoke of building a tolerant society, ‘rejecting every form of unjust discrimination,’ we can see that abortion is the ultimate injustice and discrimination against the unborn. When the pope says we must defend the rights of everyone, that clearly includes the unborn.”

Mark Thomas,

You can't really be serious about your attempts at 'damage control' here, or are you blissfully running away from the facts that Pope Francis actions and his words don't match up?

Sure he'll toss out something that sounds traditionally Catholic here and there, I would even go so far as to say that in his mind he sees abortion as evil and homosexuality as... un-ideal...

The point John Venarri makes is that Pope Francis will empower precisely those evil Bishops and others who see abortion and homosexuality as good things and that the Pope will make GRAND overtures as he has repeatedly done to further the ends of the homosexual anti-family baby-killing juggernaut that it trampling over everybody.

Pope Francis actions, appointments, and even his own words where he refuses to exercise his responsibility as the Pope and judge anyone, plus his scandalous dismissal of the documents he signed with the Patriarch of the Russian orthodox Church, and his multiple interviews, and his HERETICAL encyclicals etc. all paint a different story.

Sorry Mark, time to face facts that just throwing out random quotes by Pope Francis before a particular audience from such and such occasions when it suits him doesn't take away from John Venarri's points and only reinforces the fact that Pope Francis speaks with a forked tongue.

So either Mark Thomas here would have to either agree that Pope Francis is evil, or that he's insane and probably suffers from some mental incapacity. Which one is it?

Instead, I believe that despite their having been holy men who acted in good faith, beginning in earnest with Pope Venerable Pius XII's liberal reforms, our Popes to date have mixed Holy Tradition with liberalism. In turn, that has led to the collapse of the Church.

I believe that Church, at least the Latin Church, has bit one way to stabilize Herself: That is through the widespread return of the TLM.

Jonathan D'Souza,

I reject your either/or approach. That is, if I disagree with Pope Francis' policies/documents, or believe that his policies/documents don't benefit Holy Mother Church, then I must conclude that he is "evil" or "insane".

If I marched in lockstep with your approach, then I would be compelled to conclude the following: Beginning with Pope Venerable Pius XII, who, in earnest, mixed Holy Tradition with radical, liberal reforms that failed to renew the Church, each Pope to date was evil or insane.

Popes Venerable Pius XII, Saint John XXIII, Blessed Paul VI, (I'll exclude John Paul I), Saint John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis, have followed the same approach: They have presented a mixture of Tradition and radical liberal reforms/novelties — liberal reforms/novelties that have flopped — to the detriment of the Church.

However, that doesn't mean that they acted in evil fashion. That doesn't prove that they were/are bent to destroy the Church.

On May 3, 2016 A.D., Vox posted the following, which featured excerpts from Monsignor Joseph Fenton's diary:

“If I did not believe God, I would be convinced that the Catholic Church was about to end.” — Mgr. Joseph C. Fenton, the great 20th Century priest/theologian.

On October 19, 1962 A.D., Monsignor Fenton said: "We should, I believe, face the facts. Since the death of [Pope] St. Pius X the Church has been directed by weak and liberal popes, who have flooded the hierarchy with unworthy and stupid men."

I haven't studied closely the Pontificates of Benedict XV, and Pius XI. But there isn't any question that beginning in earnest with Pope Venerable Pius XII, who is among the Popes identified by Monsignor Fenton, that our Popes have enacted many failed liberal policies and have flooded the Church with terrible bishops.

But does that make our Popes, at least from Venerable Pius XII to Francis, "evil" or "insane"? I don't believe so.

I believe that they were/are holy Popes of good will who have done well when they've promoted Tradition and fared poorly when they've promoted liberalism.

Holy Popes have made pastoral mistakes. That doesn't render Popes "evil" or "insane"."

I reject your either/or "evil" or "insane" approach.

"Also, when Pope Francis declared that we must ‘protect and defend human life at every stage of its development,’ he reminded Congressional lawmakers of a fundamental principle of lawmaking, namely, that the law must protect human life from the moment it begins."

"This affirmation of Pope Francis to Congress today is not made in a vacuum. Every pope speaks and writes in the context of established Church teaching.

"His reference to the need to protect life from conception involves the body of teaching found in so many Church documents.

“There is no question that this is the most important foundation for advancing other human rights."

I do and I hope we all appreciate the amount of effort and time you spending defending Pope Francis very orthodox statements concerning our faith. I have not taken the time to validate all of your statements but let us suppose they are all true. Then we compare his words with his actions. Result: instant cognitive dissonance.

For example, appointing economist Jeffrey Sachs, a prominent supporter of abortion and population control, who was invited to speak at a conference on climate change at the Vatican.

Another example, Archbishop Cupich, recently picked to be on the Congregation of Bishops which picks future Bishops, has openly contradicted Catholic canon law on giving Holy Communion to those in a state of mortal sin. Shortly after his appointment as Archbishop of Chicago, Cupich said that giving Holy Communion to pro-abortion politicians can be a good thing. Canon 915 of the Code of Canon Law instructs those “conscious of grave sin” on their soul to refrain from receiving Holy Communion.

This is the problem with Pope Francis: his words and his actions don't match.

Mark Thomas said...

Michael Dowd said..."This is the problem with Pope Francis: his words and his actions don't match."

I don't see where they are not aligned. As to Jeffrey Sachs, the Holy See used his expertise to advance Catholic Social Teaching. Sachs' presence at a conference does not equate to Rome endorsing his every belief. The Church has a history of associating with people who, although they may disagree with Her in this or that regard, are able to advance the cause of the Church.

In this case, Sachs advanced Catholic teaching.

Pope Venerable receive B'nai B'rith leaders in audience and praised B'nai B'rith's humanitarian *******humanitarian******** efforts. That didn't make him a Mason. That didn't make him a man who supported everything in which B'nai B'rith supported. Rather, that made him a Pope who worked with people who, in this way or that, advanced the Church's agenda.

As to Archbishop Cupich...

Pope Francis is the only Pope who promoted a liberal bishop?

I have found it interesting that then when he's promoted liberal Churchmen, he's "evil" Pope Francis. When he has promoted conservative Churchmen, his conservative critics don't have anything to say about that.

Are we back to Randy Engel's principle that, for example, Pope Benedict XVI's appointment of "homosexual-friendly" bishops proved that Pope Benedict XVI supported the Homosexual Lobby?

A Pope's promotion of person "X" doesn't prove that the Pope supports everything about person "X".

Archbishop Cupich is opposed to the advancement of the TLM and Tradition associated with the TLM. He opposes the liturgical vision held by the Ordinariates.

Does Pope Francis' promotion of Archbishop Cupich prove that the Pope supports the Archbishop's liturgical vision? No. So, what are we to make of Archbishop Cupich's promotion? That throughout history, Popes have promoted Churchmen who haven't marched in lockstep within every vision held by those whom they've promoted.

Did Pope Benedict XVI's promotion of then-Bishop Cupich prove something sinister about Pope Benedict XVI?

#2478: "To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor's thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way: Every good Christian ought to be more ready to give a favorable interpretation to another's statement than to condemn it.

#2479: "Detraction and calumny destroy the reputation and honor of one's neighbor. Honor is the social witness given to human dignity, and everyone enjoys a natural right to the honor of his name and reputation and to respect. Thus, detraction and calumny offend against the virtues of justice and charity."
