Archbishop Denis James Hart - That will be one big millstone around your neck, do you think you can swim with it?

But he that shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone should be hanged about his neck, and that he should be drowned in the depth of the sea. Matthew 18:6

If, when I say to the wicked, Thou shalt surely die: thou declare it not to him, nor speak to him, that he may be converted from his wicked way, and live: the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at thy hand. Ezechiel 3:18
Seems pretty clear.

We need to ask serious questions of this man: is he being black mailed? If so, what is there to blackmail him with? Is he a homosexual? Is he a practicing homosexual? etc., etc.

Typical heart.... Must have had his usual dose of booze at the pub with all his up the Ar-e Mates! He has always been a liberal excuse of a cardinal!

"Students in a secondary school are growing up and in developmental stages where relationships are more like strong friendships and are not usually permanent, they are not in a situation where they are committing," Archbishop Hart said in a statement to Fairfax Media.

This shows the Archbishop's age. He is out of touch. Students in secondary school are full of raging hormones and they are eager to experiment sexually. The fact that they are not committing makes it even worse - they are looking for casual hookups and general sexual encounters. It's worse now than it was when I was a teen even a decade ago.

There are some teens who don't experiment. (As a teen, I didn't.) But the vast majority of them do experiment, and it is precisely the impermanent nature of teen relationships that makes this issue so troubling. Sex and dating aren't something to be treated casually, and we do young people a disservice when we want to treat their relationships like they don't have any long-term consequences.

Well that is a stunning example of episcopal escapism, but then again he is simply implementing my father's long held view that the preoccupation with sexual mores causes us to lose our awareness of God's absolute free gift, which is immanent but also transcendent. Errrrr I mean, just believe my Daddy's mumbo jumbo ok?

The newspaper you are quoting from is a far left, anti Catholic rag, and I fear the archbishop has been quoted out of context.Archbishop Hart is a good Archbishop, he is never going to please everyone but under his leadership the seminary has grown and many good holy priests have been ordained especially in the past decade. Many of these priests celebrate both the Extraordinary Form and the Novus Ordo form of the Mass.He has encouraged and supported the Latin Mass community offically elevating the community to the status of a ' personal parish' of the Archdiocese. Do you know if he actually gave this interview or was a spokesperson responsible for the published statement? and I would also agree with an earlier comment that he may not be quite in touch with this generation. The article also reported comments from the Principle of the school involved and as you can see the Archbishop has to also deal with 'rogue teachers' who do not follow Catholic teaching. The Age has tried to 'stitch him up'! It is difficult times for many of our Bishops who sincerely try to do the right thing, " they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. We need to pray for all our priests and Bishops.

Reply to Anonymous @ 2:46 am, January 26, 2016... You clearly do NOT know Hart,or what he had done to some very Holy priests long ago.

Dear Vox, before this report reached your hallowed pages, it went viral in Australia. I, amongst many others, immediately sent an e-mail to the Archbishop seeking an explanation. (I do not live in his Archdiocese but have the misfortune to be in the Archdiocese of Brisbane). He sent me a message back from his I-phone, only a couple of hours later saying "I did not say that." He then extrapolated This report went viral in Australia before it hit your hallowed pages, Vox. I, amongst many this statement - generally - in the media, indicating he had said we were to respect SS couples, especially in this context. Yes, The Age is anti-Catholic! So is every newspaper in Australia, including The Australian (although the latter pays lip-service to being "fair" to all viewpoints!). However the Age is NOT a rag and is very widely read by thousands of Australians. Hence whatever is reported by them (especially under the dateline of 22 January 2016) might reasonably be construed as being New News - to those who do not wish to seek further (e.g. LGBT activists and general malcontents everywhere). If, as has also been suggested, this pronouncement was not given by the Archbishop himself but by an underling, then how could this be?! A hot-button issue like this being dealt by a clerk (clerical or otherwise) - is highly unwise and will of course be pounced on by pro-gay principals of so called Roman Catholic Schools with gusto and digested in full view of an applauding public. I suggest that Archbishop Hart should take a note out of Archbishop Porteous' book (Archp. of Tasmania) who has been hauled before the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal in that backward State (by some politician who looks like a werewolf!) for DARING to implement Roman Catholic Teaching in Roman Catholic Schools. The time for appeasement is GONE - nota bene Archbishop Hart and all his supporters. Now is a perfect opportunity to say - NOT that we should respect such liaisons - whether in the young or any age - but that the Church teaches they are against God's Will and His Law and anyone who wishes to find out more should contact a reputable and godly cleric. Surely there are SOME left?????

Dear Vox and combox readers - please excuse slight glitch in the beginning of my last comment! It must be all the kangaroos jumping around on the way! Anyway, you will all know what was meant. My apologies - it was quite inadvertent and actually unavoidable! God with us all in the Battle! Oh dear, I'm getting quite weary and all I do is press some keys every now and then! Thanks to all the real fighters out there, Vox especially included. Eirene x
