The Cranmer table in the foreground with the Altar imprisoned and shut off behind a metal grill. The "Blessed Sacrament" somewhere. A picture says more than 1000 words.

I sang the Oratory for 15 years, from the old church which burned in 1997 into the new. The Tabernacle is quite beautiful, the wood is teak with gold plated inlay of the Holy Door in the Vatican. It is not an altar for the offering of Mass. The church was built in 2000. The original demands of then Cardinal Ambrozic was not to have the Tabernacle in the middle but off to the side, the Father, Jonathan Robinson resisted and they both dug their heals in. The compromise was in the middle (as it was in the old church) but in a separate "space" to fulfil the then Archdiocesan guidelines. This is no longer the case. Churches can be built with the Tabernacle at the centre and they can be moved back. There is also a communion rail which cannot be seen in this picture and it is used. Though in the Novus Ordo, the choice is to kneel or stand. For the last two years, all Novus Ordo Masses have been offered facing the Tabernacle. The altar also was consecrated and has the relics of St. Philip Neri and St. Ignatius Loyola.

Let us not let the perfect become the enemy of the good and possible.

I agree Peter, dressing up the NO doesn’t fix its inherent defects.
