As it is unseemly to speak ill of the dead, I shall leave it at this. Murphy-O'Connor has now met our Lord Jesus Christ. We should hope that the Lord was merciful to him as we hope he shall be to all of us.

It is a
tale every bit as intriguing as the plot of Conclave, Robert Harris’s
best-selling thriller set during a fictitious papal election.
For it has
emerged that Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, the former Catholic archbishop of
Westminster who died last week, intervened in the last Conclave to ensure his
friend was elected Pope Francis.
In the
days before the 2013 vote, Murphy-O’Connor co-hosted a reception at the British
embassy in Rome to lobby support for Cardinal Bergoglio, the then progressive
archbishop of Buenos Aires.
According
to a new book, Murphy-O’Connor invited cardinals from the Commonwealth but
deliberately left off the invitation list two powerful but conservative clerics
- Cardinal Ouellet from Canada, who had been a frontrunner, and Cardinal Pell
from Australia.
The plan,
which succeeded, was to persuade the cardinals of the need for a liberal pope
without interference from the senior conservatives.
The book
by Catherine Pepinster, the former editor of The Tablet, details how embassy
officials left the room to allow Murphy-O’Connor time to persuade the cardinals
of the importance of voting for Bergoglio.
Murphy-O’Connor
had been dismayed when Pope Benedict XVI was elected at the previous conclave
and was determined to avoid another conservative Pope.
Ms Pepinster,
whose book The Keys and The Kingdom: Britain and the Papacy from John Paul II
to Francis is published next month, said: “Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor was
a popular, genial man but beneath his jovial exterior was someone of great
canniness who knew exactly how the Vatican worked.
“And that
canniness meant he ensured his friend was elected Pope Francis - a pope who has
made a huge impact on the Catholic Church and the world. There have been
kingmakers in history; Cormac Murphy-O’Connor turned out to be a popemaker.”
Pope
Francis was elected on March 13 2013, the second day of the conclave, on the
fifth ballot. He need two-thirds of the 115 votes to win. It is thought the
votes delivered by Murphy-O’Connor were instrumental. The two men became close
friends after meeting for the first time when they were made cardinals on the
same day by Pope John Paul II.
In 2013,
Murphy-O’Connor was too old to vote under Vatican rules, but he travelled to
Rome, like many other elderly non-voting cardinals, to participate in talks,
called congregations, before the conclave.
Shortly
after his elevation, Pope Francis was overheard telling Murphy-O’Connor: “Tuo e
colpevole”, translated as “you’re to blame”.

Blame, indeed.
May God have mercy on his soul and may God protect us from the evil that was loosed.
Staying anonymous
We were informed at the time that this electioneering, especially by the late Cardinal Murphy-O'Connor, did take place which beggars the question as to whether PF's election was valid, as such electioneering was a departure from the general belief that the Pope was elected on the promptings of the Holy Ghost, which is risible in this particular case. The rules laid down by JPII were also ignored which goes against magisterial teaching. I don't understand how the Dubia Cardinals & the other silent ones could have stood by & let this treasonable offence happen, but they did. It also seems that the formal correction will not now take place which may have started an endeavour to clean out the Vatican.
While these old enablers haven't too much time left on this earth, problems may arise from the appointments made by PF during his tenure. They can, of course, be overturned, as indeed can be his opinions, as none of them were made ex cathedra, but it will take a courageous & saintly man to do this & bring the CC back to Tradition which has stood the test of time through the ages.
Judging from all the predictions made concerning these present times it appears that we just must put our heads down & await Divine intervention & pray diligently that this won't be long in coming.

Men have been elected pope through murder, simony, bribery etc. The Church had never nullified theircelection as pope. Once recognized by the clergy of Rome irrespective of the circumstance of election, the man is pope. Francis is pope as he is the pope we deserve. Do we really think that God would waste His time granting us another Pius X? Besides, even if such a pope were elected he would be unable to do anything. The Church, the hierarchy is very, very different than over a century ago. We should thank God for Francis as we are being scourged for failing Christ. Christ is in absolute control of His Church. All that is happening is by His permission.
I am wondering if this 'rule' to avoid 'electioneering' in electing a new Pope is one of those that the Church hierarchy considers 'flexible'. It seems to me that this business of the Holy Spirit electing a new Pope is nothing but 'ideal' and a rule that they feel they can dance around. It's one of those 'rules' in name only. Quite obviously, this seems to be the case, because they all KNEW that Bergoglio was being very highly promoted by a certain group, and went into the conclave like business as usual. There was NO ONE that seemed to object to his election. They all know (and KNEW at the time) how the game is played. They tell the faithful something very different (the HOLY SPIRIT influences the election) and then they proceed to do it their way and quite the opposite of what they declare. It seems to be just the way the 'game is played' in Rome. Bergoglio's election is in all likelihood not the first that has been 'campaigned' for. I think we are maybe just now having our eyes opened to the goings on in Rome.
" Once recognized by the clergy of Rome irrespective of the circumstance of election, the man is pope." ???
Not so:
“Further, if ever it should appear that any bishop ... or a cardinal of the Roman Church... or even the Roman Pontiff (whether prior to his promotion to cardinal, or prior to his election as Roman Pontiff), has beforehand deviated from the Catholic faith or fallen into any heresy, We enact, decree, determine and define: —
Such promotion or election in and of itself, even with the agreement
and unanimous consent of all the cardinals, shall be null, legally
invalid and void. — It shall not be possible for such a promotion or
election to be deemed valid, or to be valid, neither through reception of office, consecration, subsequent administration, or possession, nor even through the putative enthronement of a Roman Pontiff himself, together with the veneration and obedience accorded him by all. [AND THAT INCLUDES THE CLERGY OF ROME!] “Such promotion or election, shall not through any lapse of tune in the foregoing situation, be considered even partially legitimate in
any way ... Each and all of the words, as acts, laws, appointments
of those so promoted or elected —and indeed, whatsoever flows
therefrom — shall be lacking in force, and shall grant no stability
and legal power to anyone whatsoever. — Those so promoted or elected, by that very fact and WITHOUT NEED TO MAKE ANY FURTHER DECLARATION, shall be deprived of any dignity, position, honor, title, authority, office and power.”
