Father Tom Rosica receives prestigious reward from New York media group

Thomas J. Rosica, CSB, has been honoured with a distinguished award praising him as a "Distinguished Communicator." I've not read anything so gratifying since the President of the Internet

Here is the link to the full speech.

Here are some excerpts from his speech delivered at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott for the DeSales Media Group.

I find this quote the most profound, considering what follows below:

"Francis wants us to be warm, welcoming and forgiving as Jesus has modeled to us on every page of the New Testament. Francis wants us to eat with tax collectors and sinners; he wants us to forgive the woman caught in adultery (while admonishing her to sin no more); he wants us to welcome and respect foreigners (even our enemies), and, above all, not to judge others." (except for bloggers, trads-behaving-badly, and of course, Michael Voris as noted at A Nice Letter from Madrid)

"The Digital World and Catholic Blogosphere"...the big battlefield before humanity is also the digital world: (Not an abandonment of faith and Christian life and culture. Not abortion. Not euthanasia. Sodomite priests raping boys. Not atheism, radical secularism, Islamic terrorism. Modernist and heretical priests destroying the Faith. Not running to every sexual deviant idea, rampant greed, globalisation, environmental fascism; none of these except for the "digital world." The "big battlefield" is the digital world! - Vox)
You only need a keyboard, a screen or a hand-held device. In the wild, crazy world of the blogosphere, ... there is no accountability, no code of ethics, and no responsibility for one’s words and actions.  It can be an international weapon of mass destruction, crossing time zones, borders and space. In its wake is character assassination, destruction of reputation, calumny, libel, slander and defamation. ... “Catholics” have turned the Internet into a cesspool of hatred, venom and vitriol, ... character assassination on the Internet by those claiming to be Catholic and Christian has turned it into a graveyard of corpses strewn all around. Often times the obsessed, scrupulous, self-appointed, nostalgia-hankering virtual guardians of faith or of liturgical practices are very disturbed, broken and angry individuals, who never found a platform or pulpit in real life and so resort to the Internet and become trolling pontiffs and holy executioners!  In reality they are deeply troubled, sad and angry people. ... The light of Christ reflected in the Church must not become the privilege of only a few elect who float enclosed within a safe harbor or ghetto network of communications for the elite, the clean, the perfect and the saved.  This would be a “church clique” or a “personal blog” or “chat room” more than an ecclesial community.
Hmm, now what was that about, "Francis wants us to eat with tax collectors and sinners; he wants us to forgive the woman caught in adultery (while admonishing her to sin no more); he wants us to welcome and respect foreigners (even our enemies), and, above all, not to judge others?"

Unless of course, they are: "self-absorbed, Promethean, neo-Pelagians," or "fomenters of coprophagia" as Francis has often reminded us and of course, as Cleric Tom tell us, bloggers who are, "obsessed, scrupulous, self-appointed, nostalgia-hankering virtual guardians of faith or of liturgical practices are very disturbed, broken and angry individuals, who never found a platform or pulpit in real life and so resort to the Internet and become trolling pontiffs and holy executioners!"

There is a word for that.

This my friends, is why I blog.

Sounds like Fr. Tom has more than a little pent up emotion, eh? Perhaps the award will ease his pain. Clearly, Fr. Tom has his reward.

Way to go Vox and don't ever stop.

The frustration is that there is no fighting this kind of thing. It becomes a defence against a position stated by a priest in good standing, a friend of the Pope no less, who has a huge media platform - a bully pulpit. Keep up the good work, Vox. Calling this apostate out is a 'good work' that will bring merit for you in Heaven. Just keep it charitable, and use HIS words against him as you have been doing.

What does it mean for one "communicator" to receive an award from "the communications and technology arm of the Diocese of Brooklyn"? It is just another example of one group of journalists giving an award to ... their peer journalists. It's like one group of clergy giving an award to another cleric. It's all rather narcisstic.

Some people use the internet and others use their own tv stations to promote heretical 'catholic' thought.

that was a string of insults worthy of Pope Francis.

What an awful man.

These are the ravings of a clericalist who is beginning to realize that the official "catholic" media no longer can control the narrative.

Vox,

The mainstream Catholic media are a brood of vipers no longer in service of Truth, but of their papolatrous agenda.

Keep up your important work!

what a complete hypocrite...by the way has he also launched his annual attack against pro lifers needing to be civil (as opposed to the polite baby butchers) just in time for the annual prolife meeting in Ottawa today?

Keep up the great work, Vox. You are certainly in fine voice with this post. You are much appreciated here in Australia.

With enemies like Fr. Tom who needs friends? You would think by this time he would stop giving bloggers all the free publicity. I guess they never learn. Thank the Lord for that and pray for Fr. Tom.

"has been honoured with a distinguished award...." Liberals give each other 'distinguished' awards much like Notre Dame honoring Joe Biden or the “modern-day Texas heroine”, Wendy Davis.

I sent 'Fr Tom' a little congratulatory note, which I've copied below:

Wow! I may be nearing your age Fr. R, but I am comforted to realize I am not filled with vitriolic bitterness agaisnt those who appreciate the 2000+ year history of our Faith. Are you sure that we are talking about the same Church? I'm beginning to think not.

Father Rosica said..."You only need a keyboard, a screen or a hand-held device. In the wild, crazy world of the blogosphere, ... there is no accountability, no code of ethics, and no responsibility for one’s words and actions."

Father Rosica would do well to note that at least twice during his Pontificate, His Holiness Pope Francis has called out the "mainstream" news media for having distorted his words and news related to the Church.

During his recent press conference on his return from Lesbos, Pope Francis said:

"One of the recent popes, speaking of the Council, said that there were two councils: the Second Vatican Council in the Basilica of St. Peter, and the other, the council of the media.

"When I convoked the first synod, the great concern of the majority of the media was communion for the divorced and remarried, and, since I am not a saint, this bothered me, and then made me sad. Because, thinking of those media who said, this, this and that, do you not realize that that is not the important problem?"

Is Father Rosica concerned that the "mainstream" news media distort the truth in regard to the Catholic Church?

For all practical purposes, "there is no accountability" and "no responsibility for one’s words and actions" in regard to the "mainstream" news media and its distortion of the Church.

Father Rosica would do well to focus upon that mass amount of incorrect information that the news media spew forth in regard to Catholicism.

Pax.

Jesus didn't "forgive" the woman caught in adultery, she was guilty as charged, caught in the act even. He never said "I forgive you" What Jesus did was save her from the death sentence by removing her accusers.
Theologically, this is what He does for us, we are guilty, but he commutes the sentence of death, but it is provisional commutation, because we are to "sin no more." which means there are attached conditions.

As I get older one of the life lessons I have learned is that ugliness on the inside eventually spills out and can be seen by others.
This is not a balanced individual.

I like this post but environmental fascism? Hmm...certainly I believe our Lord desires that we should take the climate change of the home he has given us seriously.

"Francis wants us to eat with tax collectors and sinners"

He wants all of us to do so?

Not just missionaries and pastors trying to convert, but also Catholics trying to live normal Catholic lives?

Let's recall why Jesus did so : He was their Saviour.

Is a dead man called Baum among his examples of what "Francis" wants us to do?

There are ecclesial communities which are a cesspool of impurity.

There are also personal blogs which expose themselves to quite a lot of vitriol.

Internet is outside the real life?

Can Salt and Light be seen over youtube?

So, does Rosica have no platform "in real life" or is internet more tempting to him than "real life"?

He is a Basilian priest born in Rochester and based in Toronto. He was chaplain at the Newman Centre and a "youth expert," so he was given the task of organising World Youth Day in Toronto in 2002. After that, he was put in as Executive Producer/CEO of Salt + Light Media, cable television station in Canada, little watched. From there, he was appointed President of Assumption University in Windsor and converted it to a chaplaincy and in between was a Consultor to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.

He also attempted to sue me!

That was a mistake.

The day he did this, I had 600,000 page views after 10 years. Today, it is 4.2 million.

I am afraid they have been a bit more careful with my blogs:

Russia Led My Blog Readers One Week

I have about one million readers on my blogs overall since 2008, when I added blogger to MSN Groups (I had tried twice in 2006, but the accounts are not available to me, so I don't know the stats from then).

I am at this rate not making it two millions to next year or the one past.
