Over at CWR, I called this "the world-famous icon of Jesus as a three-eyed conjoined twin carrying a sack over his shoulders while balancing a life preserver behind his head", and admitted that I had even momentarily wondered if there was some same-sex subtext implied in the image.
But it's even more serious than that: the modern Catholic Church, from top to bottom, has almost completely lost the ability to discern between beauty and ugliness, between excellence and banality. Whether it's Church architecture, liturgical music, or the proliferationofhideous, insipidcorporate-stylelogos for Catholic institutions or events...the only conclusion I can draw is that this is an institution that despises its past and wants only to be like everyone else. How on earth can the Church Christ founded be mired in such ugliness?

Ah, the "liturgicide" and "catecheticide" of the 60s bears it's rotting fruit in the 70s. The iconoclastic frenzy that is the Spirit of Vatican II.
