Francis Cardinal Leo wants to grind us down. Don't believe me?

To distinguish between His Eminence and Frank Leo, the great real estate entrepreneur, Francis Cardinal Leo today issued a pastoral plan, the second in a decade after the multi-million-dollar fundraising Family of Faith campaign of Cardinal Collins. This new plan is called Filling the Jars to the Brim. I guess the money, dang, I mean, wine, is running a little low.

Archdiocese of Toronto - Filling the Jars to the Brim - A Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese of Toronto

The document is over 100 pages, including footnotes where the writer quotes himself much as Pope Francis did. I've just done a little scan, and it seems Pope Francis is alive and well and living in Lawrence Park. We have words such as culture, encounter and engagement. All very Bergoglian. It will need a deeper dive, but what is most strange is the very first paragraph:

"With gratitude and great hope, I present to you our new Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan, Filling the Jars to the Brim. This plan invites each one of us to deepen our loving relationship with our Saviour Jesus Christ and to renew our commitment to the faith, life and mission of the Church throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto. The overarching purpose of it is to identify several key priorities which will inspire us and focus the energies, the attention, heart and evangelizing efforts of the whole archdiocese. It is our response to the call of the Resurrected Jesus: “Go out and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28: 19–20) so that the Good News will take root in the life of the Church and by consequence in society at large in a fuller, more authentic, engaged and attritive way."

You might not see it right away. Now, I'm a pretty smart guy but there are some words I need to look up. I remember that I had to do that when the dear late pope referred to above used the phrase, "fomenters of coprophagia." I had no idea what it meant, and our little Roxy never had that problem. If you don't know, please put down your coffee before you click on this link:

Well, back to the word of the day. "Attritive." The word is interesting, and it actually has a theological meaning, and I quote from the Oxford English Dictionary:

But that doesn't really make any sense in the sentence. Unless he is going by the definition that most would know as attritive is the root of attrition, as in a wearing down, such as "staff reduced through attrition" or a "war of attrition." So, is Francis Cardinal Leo trying to wear us down through attrition, or is he trying to remind us that we are falling short of true contrition, or did he mean "attractive" and this is a typo, which is the reason they need to fill the jars to hire people who can write?
