Praised be

Praised by Jesus Christ.
Both now and forever. Amen.

It will take much time to digest this Encyclical; others will do it much better than this writer. There are nearly 80,000 words of which 21 are the Holy Name of Jesus who shows up for the first time in paragraph 82.

I shall remain a member of the Flat Earth Society and hold the belief that man is not responsible for any significant change in climate. An actual scientific past reveals a tropical Greenland and fossils of palms and ferns in Alaska proving that climate changes. I do not deny that climate changes, it is the nature of it to do so. I deny that mankind has any great affect and I especially deny that we an alter it to serve our needs.

Should we pollute the air? Of course not, I have asthma mostly affected by nature's own pollution of tree pollen and grass pollen. I feel guilty using ant dust around the deck, but it's either that or live with them in my house. Should we recycle, compost, push for cleaner automobiles, consume less? Absolutely! Should we slaughter our animals for food with respect and humaneness for God's creature? Certainly, so do something about halal slaughter then. Don't pour toxins in drinking water. Clear cutting forests is a bad thing to do. If we could find an alternative to fossil fuels, let's do it. Let's use technology developed by man's God-given ingenuity to find a better way to plant, to harvest, to irrigate, to make. But make no mistake, it is not going to come from socialism or globalist control that will develop new methods. It is only through private property and a free market that the great achievements of mankind have come. We cannot identify one lasting economic or cultural achievement of communism or socialism or globalism. It is about control.

The free market exchange of goods and services with respect for the individual and care for the poor at the level of "subsidiarity" is, and always has been the model of economy.

As for being stewards of the Earth, it goes without saying.

What I cannot accept is that, through parts of this document, the Pope has followed a narrative of political ideology that is the dominating one of globalists and Malthusians, and left-wing ideologues.

I am disturbed by paragraph 175 which is actually lifted from Benedict XVI's equally disturbing writing in Caritas in Veritate calling for a new "global political authority" with its referral back to Pacem in Terris of John XXIII. For the record, I was greatly disturbed and cringed upon reading this a few years ago. This was as disturbing coming from Pope Benedict XVI as was Pope John Paul II's kissing of the Quran.

Yet, now we know that political and economic machinations by those such as Schellnhuber have been permeating and percolating in the Church for more than half a century. "Nothing will ever be the same again."

The problem with this Encyclical is not new. It is a problem that we as Catholics have faced for decades. The Church has lost her way since even before the Second Vatican Council. In an effort to "open the windows" She has been invaded by an evil wind. She has ceased to preach to the entire world that there is only one God in Three Persons and that salvation is only through Her by Father's will the Blood of Jesus Christ and the Grace of the Holy Spirit. She has flirted with false religions and their false gods and now, we are reaping what has been sown as evidenced in this.

246. At the conclusion of this lengthy reflection which has been both joyful and troubling, I propose that we offer two prayers. The first we can share with all who believe in a God who is the all-powerful Creator, while in the other we Christians ask for inspiration to take up the commitment to creation set before us by the Gospel of Jesus.

The first prayer can be said by any Freemason who bows to the Great Architect of the Universe.

As was said by the Grand Master of the Grand Orient of Italy who expressed his joy thus; "With the election of Pope Francis, nothing will ever be the same again."

And now, we have a Pope who writes their prayers to their "Great Architect."

The world will praise this Pope and this Encyclical because it has to do with its agenda and nothing to do with faith and morals. The world will ignore his comments about abortion, embryos and population control. The world will not praise Paul VI for Humane Vitae.

It would have been a more profound act on the part of the Pope if this Encyclical was a call for the world to end the persecution and the annihilation of Christians or that true peace can only be found in a conversion to Jesus Christ and His Church but that would not be as politically correct in this age of toleration for everything except the truth.

St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us.

For erudite and rational assessment of the encyclical, I recommend:

Make no mistake, this Encyclical has nothing whatsoever to do with 'faith and morals', it is political through and through. As for helping the poor? If the Holy Father's advice is taken to punish big business for it's robbing of the poor, this will do the opposite. Does he not realize this?

Calling on two U.N. officials that are very well known for their 'population control' mantra to have input into the composition of this Encyclical is beyond troubling. It demonstrates very clearly his capitulation with the culture of the pagan 'world'.

Ant powder? Go to Walmart and get some Home Defense Max Spray made by Ortho. You can even use it inside your house. Usually one spray in the summer is sufficient. No more ants. Trust me.

I think the Pope just created a One World Authority and dug the foundations of World War III...

This encyclical is focused on world political power and control... so that we all become converted to the world socialist worker movement. That we should be ashamed of our sinful behavior towards the world, and that we now must be reconciled and begin the collective Task of repairing that which we so badly sinned against [Gods) creation.

218. In calling to mind the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi, we come to realize that a healthy relationship with creation is one dimension of overall personal conversion, which entails the recognition of our errors, sins, faults and failures, and leads to heartfelt repentance and desire to change. The Australian bishops spoke of the importance of such conversion for achieving reconciliation with creation: “To achieve such reconciliation, we must examine our lives and acknowledge the ways in which we have harmed God’s creation through our actions and our 62 failure to act. We need to experience a conversion, or change of heart”.[153]

219 This task “will make such tremendous demands of man that he could never achieve it by individual initiative or even by the united effort of men bred in an individualistic way. The work of dominating the world calls for a union of skills and a unity of achievement that can only grow from quite a different attitude”.[154] The ecological conversion needed to bring about lasting change is also a community conversion.

Julie,

This was predicted back in 2008 by a man from the Church of God, named Ronald Weinland.

Check out his books.

The Encyclical is opposed to the Catholic Faith and morals (and reason and facts). It is a danger to souls.

Cardinal Ottaviani's words from January 1953 - on the infiltration and corruption of the Church, on the apostasy throughout and from the top - are apt:

- It is fashionable today[…] to judge, criticize and get rid of everything that doesn’t sound modern, novel, or subversive. […] And the poor Catholic is bewildered hearing so much bitterness from the mouths of little sacristy-communists, hearing in many ways, how everything is outmoded. […].

- […]The only effect of their social action in the end, is to break up, throw out , destroy and raze to the ground to make way - for whom? We need only look at who is holding the cord of this devastation. We say and we fear no contradiction - [it is]for the Antichrist. The Antichrist for us, is anyone who stands for a society in opposition to God or even one simply without Him. And whoever aligns with these people, or lends a hand and obeys them, makes way for the Antichrist, even if unwittingly.

- When a priest is corrupted, he becomes the worst and the speediest agent for social decay.

- Unfortunately the world has become so pagan that some of its materialistic influence has infiltrated into Catholic consciences.

- We are in times when one must resist not only adversaries but also those inside the Church who look outside [ Her] with more sympathy to the other camp and they do more damage inside, as if they had deserted Her already.

- Our thoughts are veiled in sadness when we envisage the many souls poisoned or contaminated by the oozing filth of so much obscene literature; in so many the light of faith is obscured by the murky darkness of books written by atheists. In addition, there is much vacillation also in literature, even if not obscene or blasphemous, which plants doubt, uncertainty, confusion and sets minds in new ways which are not those of the Lord."

Pope Francis has spoken out often on the issue of persecuted Christians. He has exhorted the United Nations, in effect, the world, to protect and deliver Christians from those who persecute Christians. His statements in that regard have received widespread coverage.

I believe that an Encyclical on liturgy (to restore Holy Tradition to the Latin Church in particular) is of vital need to the Church. An Encyclical on the nature of the Church, to make clear that the Church is the One True Church, is of vital need to the Church.

Perhaps said Encyclicals may arrive during Pope Francis' Pontificate.

But in fairness to His Holiness Pope Francis, should hearts and minds within and without the Church heed the message of his current Encyclical, that is, people are called by God to embrace the Culture of Life, then the persecutions of Christians would cease...one problem after another on earth would cease.

An Encyclical on the persecution of Christians...or liturgy, or the Church, etc...would definitely entail a cosmic scope. However, such an Encyclical would also have a limited scope.

Would people, for example, in Japan, take great interest in an Encyclical that would likely be focused upon Christian persecutions that limited generally to Iraq, Syria, and parts of Africa? Would Hindus care much about an Encyclical that discussed the need to imbue the Roman Mass with Latin and Gregorian Chant?

Again, such Encyclicals should be published. The Church has problems that She must address, even if limited generally to Herself.

But the current Encyclical is addressed to each person on earth. The contents of the Encyclical, if made their own by hundreds of millions of people, would make the world more peaceful and healthier than old Mother Earth is today.

Should some folks view the Encyclical as political...well, that's their opinion. I reject that opinion.

The Encyclical to me is clearly a defense and promotion of the Culture of Life.

Peace.

Mark Thomas

But in the current situation, Pope Francis wished to address the world...everybody.

If the world actually carried out what the pope proposes, it would lead to tyranny and worldwide economic collapse. This pope is trying to build a Church of Man which focuses almost exclusively on the liberation of the poor and social "justice." The pope has aligned himself with Communist and liberal philosophy, which is essentially aligning with the devil.

I was so disappointed in you, Vox Cantoris, for calling this pope a "little odd maybe" - if I remember correctly. May God forgive all who see him as betrayer of Jesus Christ and His Church, if we are wrong. There is a good reason why previous popes spoke against Freemasonry. How can anyone love God wholeheartedly and be lukewarm at the same time, making friends and allies with worshippers of false gods? It is one thing to love and pray for them. It is another to be a relativist, a humanist, a lover of modernism and so called progress in face of the unchanging God. To be a gnostic rejecting the evil Demiurg and putting his trust in the rebellious one, is anti-Christian. Amidst this sadness we should find encouragement in Truth, as simple, clear and unchanging as it has always been. May God bless you, Vox Cantoris, and all of us, who are uncompromising in our obedience to Him.

Dear Julie (at Connecticut Catholic Corner),

Please consider the context of Pope Francis' statement.

In #175 of Laudato si, Pope Francis referenced #67 of Pope Benedict XVI's Encyclical Caritas In Veritate.

Pope Benedict declared in #67 that "in the face of the unrelenting growth of global interdependence, there is a strongly felt need, even in the midst of a global recession, for a reform of the United Nations Organization, and likewise of economic institutions and international finance, so that the concept of the family of nations can acquire real teeth.

"This seems necessary in order to arrive at a political, juridical and economic order which can increase and give direction to international cooperation for the development of all peoples in solidarity.

"To manage the global economy; to revive economies hit by the crisis; to avoid any deterioration of the present crisis and the greater imbalances that would result; to bring about integral and timely disarmament, food security and peace; to guarantee the protection of the environment and to regulate migration: for all this, there is urgent need of a true world political authority, as my predecessor Blessed John XXIII indicated some years ago.

"Such an authority would need to be regulated by law, to observe consistently the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity, to seek to establish the common good[147], and to make a commitment to securing authentic integral human development inspired by the values of charity in truth.

"Furthermore, such an authority would need to be universally recognized and to be vested with the effective power to ensure security for all, regard for justice, and respect for rights[148]".

Julie, Pope Venerable Pius XII also called for a similar "world authority". Popes Saint John XXIII, Venerable Paul VI and Saint John Paul II also called for said authority.

Pope Benedict XVI, as was each Pope named above, was accused by some as having called for a one world government.

Please note, as Pope Francis' reference made clear...as did Popes Benedict XVI, Saint John Paul II, Venerable Paul VI, Saint John XXIII, and Venerable Pius XII...that the Holy See insists that sovereign nations remain intact.

Any "World Authority" organization, such as a *******reformed******* United Nations, as Popes Francis and Benedict XVI made clear, would derive it's authority from sovereign nations.

Sovereign nations would not disappear. Sovereign nations would not derive their authority from a "World Authority" organization.

In #175 of Laudato si, in which Pope Francis' referenced Pope Benedict XVI call for a "World Authority", please note that Pope Francis in the sentence prior to his reference of Pope Benedict XVI declared the following:

Any "functionaries" of the so-called "World Authority" organization (the United Nations) would be "appointed fairly by agreement among national governments".

Also in #177 of Pope Francis' Encyclical released today, His Holiness declared that government will continue to exist in the form of "individual states" and "sovereign society".

Pope Francis has made it clear that "individual states", "sovereign society", "sovereign nations" will not disappear nor succumb to a one world government.

Popes Venerable Pius XII, Saint John XXIII, Venerable Paul VI, Saint John Paul II, and Benedict XVI made that same point in their calling for the establishment of a United Nations organization that would, with consent from sovereign nations, aid poor persons and protect the environment.

Pope Francis teaching must be taken in context...and is simply the continuation of the Holy See's policy to defend and promote the Culture of Life.

Peace to you.

If I may add please to my post in regard to Julie's concern that Pope Francis via today's Encyclical "created a One World Authority"...having just spent additional time reading the Encyclical, I found the following:

-- Pope Francis in #38 noted that it's imperative for society "to preserve its country’s environment and natural resources, without capitulating to spurious local or international interests."

-- In #50, Pope Francis condemned "international pressure" that has been wielded to attempt to control the populations of countries.

-- In #93, Pope Francis reiterated that "human rights — personal and social, economic and political, including the rights of nations and peoples — must be respected".

Julie, please rest assured that as his Encyclical has made clear, there is not a shred of desire by His Holiness Pope Francis to establish a "One World Authority" that would infringe upon the God-given rights of peoples and sovereign nations.

Unlike other commentators, I have not read it. An encyclical on the 'care of our common home' is timely and will appeal to all who see the goodness & beauty of our God-given earthly home.
