Day of Spite and Petty Malice - a contemporary take on the Dies Irae

With credit to:

Day of spite and petty malice!
When a document most callous
Came forth from the papal palace.

Oh, what nuisance it inventeth,
And what rancor it fermenteth,
As the faithful it tormenteth.

Loud complaints will be resounding
Every chancery surrounding
Bishops with a headache pounding.

To what end this persecution?
Whom enriched by diminution?
For what is this the solution?

See, the faithful are divided
By the place where they resided
Some shepherds took, while some provided.

Lo, the ones whose loss is graver
Traded for a tyrant’s favour
May God send them leaders braver!

When the figures are recorded
They will tell a tale most sordid
Enemies of faith rewarded.

Those with modern ways complying
Parishes once vibrant, dying
Gone, the sound of babies crying.

Long neglected, yet deep-rooted
Ancient vineyard richly fruited
Might for envy be uprooted.

Prayers that pestilence averted
Rites that continents converted
Shall such treasures be subverted?

May we never take for granted
Beauty sculpted, written, chanted
Save, O Lord, what Thou hast planted!

See, the sacred incense rising
Michael’s sword the foe surprising
Smoke of Satan exorcising.

Those with rigor still sustaining
And the older fasts maintaining
Will stand firm, their strength not waning.

Those the narrow way pursuing
Those to purity yet hewing
Will not here find their undoing.

Though it may not soon get better
With each poison papal letter
May God yet His Mass unfetter.

Like the Church of old, forbidden
Underground, in places hidden
Spreading though with troubles ridden

Spiteful day, of harvest rotten
Better to be soon forgotten
For this purge, O Lord, prepare us
(Though we’d rather You would spare us!)

Lord, we ask on this dark day
Make this nuisance go away

Amen

A heartless thing our shepherd did - wait for it!

Dom Alcuin Reid and the situation in Fréjus-Toulon

For those readers here who have not seen this article regarding Monastère Saint-Benoît - Home (monasterebrignoles.org) on Rorate Caeli, you may wish to read it. It lays out the current situation there quite clearly. The Monks are now effectively in the same position as the Society of St. Pius X. Fortunately, they own their property and cannot be evicted by corrupt Vatican apparatchiks.

There are unsubstantiated reports that will surely be clarified by tomorrow that Blaise Cupich is about to banish the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest from Chicago. I seem to recall that they also own their building having purchased it from the Archdiocese of Chicago. Maybe not so "unsubstantiated." ACTION ITEM: Prayer to avert a serious act of persecution – UPDATED | Fr. Z's Blog (wdtprs.com)

Delirious Dichotomy - the profound liturgical wisdom of Francis

An Apostolic Letter was issued in Rome today by Pope Francis. A Jesuit has commented formally on the liturgy. The last time I was at Mass celebrated by a Jesuit, everything had changed but the bread and wine. In Toronto, we are blest to have a Jesuit pastored parish, Our Lady of Lourdes.

The document urges proper liturgical formation. I can agree with that.

Let's see. Pope Francis would like proper liturgical formation.

Can we begin with Sacrosanctam Concilium?

Chirograph on Sacred Music?

Redemptionis Sacramentum?

How about the General Instruction on the Roman Missal?

Please, spare me, Jorge.

As for this, your "intention" will mean nothing. Nor, will you live long enough. Your attempt to tear the Church apart over this will fail. You will not stop It. Who thought at Easter or a year ago or a decade ago that we would see Roe vs. Wade collapse so quickly? The same will happen to the false church dwelling within the Bride of Christ.

For more information, Father Zuhlsdorf has explored the shallow depths of the mind of Francis and his ghostwriters.

In your charity - consideration of the support of a family

Dear Friends,

This is not the first time that I've written about a situation with a family. It is amazing how powerful a blog post can be to assist in times of need. A few months ago, I wrote about a family friend who passed on to the Lord and you came through in a marvellous way.

Yesterday, my wife attended the funeral for the husband of a childhood friend. It was very sad. The financial situation is desperate.

For those who may wish to donate and not use GoFundMe, you may write me directly at voxcantoris@rogers.com and we will ensure that any transferred funds are sent directly and without delay to the family.

I leave this for your discernment

Thank you for whatever you can do to help the family of the late Jesse Rousseau of Keswick, Ontario.

LESSON Isa. 49:1-3, 5, 6, 7
Give ear, ye islands, and hearken, ye people from afar. The Lord hath called me from the womb, from the bowels of my mother he hath been mindful of my name. And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword: in the shadow of his hand he hath protected me, and hath made me as a chosen arrow: in his quiver he hath hidden me. And he said to me: Thou art my servant Israel, for in thee will I glory. And now the Lord, who formed me from the womb to be his servant, says, "Behold, I have given thee to be the light of the Gentiles, that thou mayst be my salvation even to the farthest part of the earth. Kings shall see, and princes shall rise up, and adore for the Lord's sake, because he is faithful, and for the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen thee."

GRADUAL Jer. 1:5, 9
Before I formed you in the body of your mother, I knew you; and before you came forth from the womb, I sanctified you.
V. The Lord stretched forth His hand and touched my mouth, and said to me:

Alleluia, alleluia! V. Luke 1:76
"Thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High, for thou shall go before the Lord to prepare His ways." Alleluia!

THE NATIVITY OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST

DOUBLE, FIRST CLASS / WHITE

Our Lord said of His Precursor that among those born of women there had not risen a greater than John the Baptist. John was more than a prophet because it was his office to point out to mankind the Saviour whom the ancient prophets had foretold obscurely and from afar. The Baptist practiced in a heroic degree the virtues of purity, penance, and incessant prayer; but the crown of his great holiness was his selfless humility. "He must increase, but I must decrease," John said of Christ. These words are the inspiration of foreign missioners striving to train native priests, in order to yield their places to them. They also mark the goal of all sincere Catholics, in whom self must die before they can attain "to the mature measure of the fullness of Christ" (Eph. 4:13).

GOSPEL Luke 1:57-68
At that time, Elizabeth's full time of being delivered was come: and she brought forth a son. And her neighbors and kinsfolks heard that the Lord had shewed his great mercy towards her: and they congratulated with her. And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child: and they called him by his father's name Zachary. And his mother answering, said: "Not so. But he shall be called John." And they said to her: "There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name." And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. And demanding a writing table, he wrote, saying: "John is his name." And they all wondered. And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed: and he spoke, blessing God. And fear came upon all their neighbours: and all these things were noised abroad over all the hill country of Judea. And all they that had heard them laid them up in their heart, saying: "What an one, think ye, shall this child be?" For the hand of the Lord was with him. And Zachary his father was filled with the Holy Ghost. And he prophesied, saying: "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel: because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people."

OFFERTORY ANTIPHON Ps. 91:13
The just man shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like a cedar of Lebanon.
