Father John Hunwicke, Go in peace, good Father, to God in our prayers and remembrances

The "last post" if you will.

May he rest in peace.

What a voice! What a teacher!

This one hurts. I'm sad to lose him, really, what a great, singular man and priest. In the same way it would be hard to sum up C.S. Lewis, it would be hard to sum up Fr. Hunwicke, and I'm sure I don't know a tenth of what there is to know. Obviously a man of distinction, his scholarly mind, his knowledge base, to read even his blog made you smarter, but you may have to look up a word or two. Yet there was a wit and humility, it was very apparent. A heart. A love for God and for the faith.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him, amen. Thank you for this life, Lord, may he rest in peace, and grant me may meet him on the heavenly shore one day.

Fr, Hunwicke's blog reminded me of my intellectual shortcomings with every post. His death is a great loss to us, this much I know. On the bright side, Father doesn't have to deal with the much promoted 'Go and make mess" in our Church any more. Eternal rest grant him O Lord.

Fr. Hunwicke was one of a kind. His speaking could not be over-rated and his sense of humor was wonderful. We shared many meals at Gardone (the Roman Forum) and just to be in his presence was a great treat. And he knew his Catholicism; he struggled to become a Catholic and he treasured it. He will be missed. May he rest in peace and I hope we will one day 'merrily meet in heaven'.

Fr Hunwicke was a good priest. I will miss his blogging and pray that he will be received by Jesus with joy and celebration at his judgement. Rest in peace Father. Well done and may perpetual light shine upon you.
