We are now less than a week away from July 1 and the episcopal consecration of four priests by the Society of St. Pius X, without, as of yet, a papal mandate, surely to provoke excommunication.
For what it is worth, and for whatever my opinion is worth, I blame both.
The Society is arrogant and prideful. Whilst they are correct on many things, dictating to the Pope is not the right approach. At the same time, the arrogance of the Pope to not meet with them is astounding. His job is literally that of a pontifex, a "bridge." In this role, he is failing, so far at least.
The Second Vatican Council was not doctrinal, though doctrine was part of it. The Novus Ordo Missae is not the liturgy called for by the Council Fathers. It is fundamentally a rupture and often celebrated as a show rather than the offering of a sacrifice. Yet, despite that and the abuses, it is still what it is. The Mass. The SSPX knows this. They accept the Council where doctrine is clear. The Mass is valid when offered properly.
The Vatican is at fault for letting this fester. The Pope can fix this. The Society needs to humble itself.
1. To the Society of St. Pius X: Stop talking about Vatican II: "Holy Father, we love you, we are your priestly sons, please, for the sake of our Fraternity and the souls of the faithful, grant us these bishops."
2. To Pope Leo XIV: Say, "yes!"
Enough of this crap.

I have to post these. I know you can find them on your own. But I must post them. | Fr. Z's Blog
