Salt + Light Features Pro-Abortion Communist and Anti-Catholic bigot!

Why would Salt + Light Catholic Television* feature a program called "Context with Lorna Dueck" which features as a guest anti-Catholic bigot and pro-abortion advocate and communist and former head of the radically feminist National Action Committe on the Status of Women, Judy Rebick.

Is this appropriate "Catholic" television programming?

Just askin'.

* aired on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 @ 10:00 P.M. EST

Feminist and author Judy Rebick said on Monday that it is about time Morgentaler is honoured for his long battle for abortion rights for women.

"Dr. Morgentaler is a hero to millions of women in the country," she said. "He risked his life to struggle for women's rights … He's a huge figure in Canadian history and the fact that he hasn't got [the Order of Canada] until now is a scandal."

Does it get anymore scandalous than that?

I thought he did have it, which is why some Catholics gave theirs back.

The quote was from Ms. Judy Rebick, who I understand is the person the S&L TV sponsored show felt was an appropriate guest.

I stand to be corrected however.

I remember Lorna at 100 Huntley St.
Why is Salt and Light using a watered down Christian program on a Catholic Station?
This show is also shown on CTS and Moses Znaimer's Vision TV. (you know Vishio - the one with shows like Benny Hill all the way to the Catholic Mass)

All those social justice teachers can now say - lets have Judy speak at our school - she was on Salt and Light you know!

From some of the shows I've just watched online Lorna seems to give both sides of an argument and you the viewer can decide.
(like the Winnipeg Statement?)

Scandal is scandal. No matter how much you dress it up.

And to think how many parishes throw in S & L ads into their bulletins for free advertising.
For shame!

Yes, Morgentaler has been awarded the Order of Canada. In fact, the above quote by Judy Rebick is from a statement made at the time of the award, lamenting the fact that it hadn't been awarded to him sooner since he was such a hero to women in Canada. (We need a vomiting emoticon.)

Gabby: As for a vomiting emoticon there is one:

Hey Anonymous: Are you affiliated with Salt+Light TV? Perhaps you're a Nu-Church hipster? Let me guess: you just love Marty Haugen ditties?

Vox: Good job in drawing out the snakes from their evil lair.

@Anonymous 1:54pm: Based on the time you posted your comment, I would guess you were at work at the time it was posted; assuming you are gainfully employed. At that particular time (1:54pm) it appears you were slacking off reading blogs rather than tending to your duties.

From the S&L "about us" section of the website:

"Our Mission
To Be Your Catholic Channel of Hope

Our Vision
To become a global media leader focussed on telling stories of hope and inspiration that bring people closer to Christ and the Catholic faith."

I personally do not see how the program in question, especially when such guests are hosted, in anyway complement the vision or the mission as stated by the powers that be at Salt & Light. Do they not vet the programming at all?

I completely agree with Theresa's comment. I can almost hear that being said around here right now. If it's on S&L, it must be fine and dandy. It's akin to the politican who says, well I don't personally believe in blah blah blah, but I voted for it anyway because some do believe in it and I represent everyone. Fine whatever. But S&L is supposed to be "telling stories of hope and inspiration that bring people closer to Christ and the Catholic faith"

What a joke. (except it's not very funny).

Dear Readers,

At 1:54 P.M. today "Anonymous" posted a comment which I have found it necessary to delete.

The person obviously knows me and has had the temerity to actually link my name with that of my employer, an employer for whom I have great loyalty and respect. Therefore, it is necessary for me to protect my employer from any possible link with the opinions of me, as an individual.

I am reposting it here, with the name of my employer censored.

A friend of mine likes to say, "Don't argue with a crazy person, you'll be dragged down to their level." This is someting like, "if you like down with pigs you'll get mud all over you but the pig at least, will enjoy it."

So, here is his comment, with my employer and my name censored:

Anonymous at 1:54
"My question(s), perhaps more relevant:

"Why would the XXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXX employ Mr. XXXXX.XXXXX - at $90,000 per year -to sit on his fat ass and blog all day long instead of working? I mean, isn't he just stealing from the students at this point?. shouldn't he at least have some type of task or deliverable work to do? Shouldn't he at least have to show up at work to get paid?"

As per Matthew 1, these are not my questions to judge. But I'm guessing that St. Peter doesn't look too kindly upon those who take from the Catholic Church and give nothing back.

Good luck, Mr. XXXXX, in your quest to judge others before judging yourself."

It is very sad that someone would make such a statement and not have the courage to show themselves.
