Cardinal Caffarra, may he rest in peace

Cardinal Caffarra, has died suddenly. While said to be ill, his death seems to have come as a surprise. May he rest in the peace of Christ, whom he loved.

The Cardinal is the second of the four "dubia" Cardinals to pass away in the last few months, the first being Cardinal Meisner.

Raymond Cardinal Burke has issued a statement:

“With the death of Cardinal Carlo Caffarra the Church has lost the earthly presence of an exemplary priest, Bishop and Cardinal. Having enjoyed the great gift of knowing Cardinal Caffarra over many years and of working very closely with him during the these last years in the safeguarding and promoting of the Church’s constant teaching and practice regarding Holy Matrimony and the Holy Eucharist, I can testify that he was completely and solely inspired by a deep and pure love of Christ and of Christ’s Mystical Body, the Church. His purity of heart was always evident to me and was an unfailing inspiration. His knowledge of the Church’s doctrine and discipline was the fruit of years of study, which he continued until the end, for the sake of giving the best possible care to souls. Just recently, he related to me how he was studying the texts of Blessed Cardinal John Henry Cardinal Newman on conscience in preparation for a public lecture in England. While I mourn deeply the loss of his earthly presence, I am confident that his love of Christ and of the Church will continue. I count upon the help of his prayers in carrying out my weighty responsibility as a teacher of the faith and a doctor of souls. May the good and faithful Cardinal rest in peace.”

Its seems to this writer that Cardinals Burke and Brandmuller should avail themselves of food-tasters, body-guards and bullet vests under their albs and if you think I'm wearing a tin-foiled hat then you've not studied history.

The deaths of these two venerable Cardinals within two months of each other calls to mind the death of Pope John Paul I who died 33 days after his election. There was no proper autopsy & we were certainly left with serious questions that were never answered. I was unaware that ++Caffarra was ill so his death has come as a shock. May his soul & that of his fellow Cardinal rest in the presence of Our Lord, His Blessed Mother, St. Joseph & the Holy Angels, & may they never cease to pray that Christ's Church will be brought back to Tradition that stood the test of time & was pleasing to God.

I read a very nice tribute paid him by Cardinal Sarah & would ask your readers & commenters to pray that he will now step forward & sign the Dubia, hopefully along wth many other silent Cardinals/Bishops & get the formal correction issued before anyone else is suddenly take from us.

Yep, I've seen combox messages on other sites with posters acting 'appalled' that people would even think there was possible foul play involved here. Well, what I don't think many people are aware of is that Churchmen have killed people many many times throughout history. It's certainly not a 'new phenomena'. In fact the Church is kind of notorious for funny stuff going on throughout history! Two Dubia Cardinals dead within two months? Yeah right! "And then there were two".....

Now, that being said, who knows what possible 'group' this may have been.....the key word here is 'MAY'. I think we will get more details as time goes on. For instance, what illness was Cardinal Caffarra suffering from? I'd also like to know......Did they perform an autopsy on Cardinal Meisner? Will they perform one on Cardinal Caffarra?

Regardless may the two Cardinals rest in the peace of Christ!

I would put NOTHING past Jorge Bergoglio.

There is no evil beneath him.

Oh and one more 'possibility' that I hadn't thought of until someone else said it: A message for BXVl?

With your last sentence, I agree. These two deaths have a stench about them that cannot be ignored - not with the Vatican being run by Peronists.

Amen brother! Cardinal Caffarra was NOT "ill". He was a bee in the pontiff's mitre! He has been martyred for the faith. Cardinal Burke had better deliver the formal correction immediately. That one cannot go unanswered by the "pope". Now is the time for the church militant (all FAITHFUL Catholics) to stand up to the widespread abuses---liturgical and otherwise---that are the act of satan trying to devour souls and destroy the Church. In the end we win but we must still fight this war.

May Cardinal Meisner and Cardinal Caffara and all souls of the faithful departed though the mercy of God rest in peace. Let's put our trust in the Lord.

Has not Bergoglio stated quite shamelessly that his strategy is to wait for his challengers to die off? What is so tin-foil-hat about wondering whether he's getting a little impatient?

Agree Vox. How do you die suddenly of a long term illness. I feel such a sadness.

I really liked this Cardinal and respected his forthrightness and obvious saintliness! His passing has been a great surprise to me since he always looked SO WELL! May his soul rest in peace and may he intercede for the Church before the Throne of Grace!
If there was any dirty work involved in his demise, this will be made known in the fullness of time.

Rest in Peace, Cardinal Caffarra. I have enrolled him (at no cost) in the Rorate Caeli Purgatorial Society where he will have benefit of at least 83 traditional Masses monthly in perpetuity.

Exactly right, I very much agree, Vox. Heretics can be violent, as we can see if we study the history of the Church. The Arians, in particular, were prone to violence, but so were many other heretic groups. It's just not so obvious with the Modernists.

Hello Eirene. :) Where have you been for so long? It's great to have you back. I've often wondered what happened to you. XXX

Dear Bishop Caffarra,
Thank you for having been one of very few who defended, at great cost, the very words of Jesus Christ, and may God grant you eternal rest.
All the Saints in Heaven, orate pro nobis!

I was referring to Bergoglio's December 2014 remarks about how to deal with diabolical troublemakers who ask not what they can do for Jorge, but what they can do for Jesus Christ. You pull out nails (the ever profound Argentinian pontiff pointed out) by putting pressure on the top, or else you set people aside when they reach retirement age. In other words, don't engage--just let death overtake anyone you haven't handpicked and appointed. One thing you've got to give the guy--in this case, at least, he's been true to his word.

Dear Peter, That was lovely of you and thank you! For the past year and a half I have been in and out of hospitals battling this and that! It's given me a chance to reflect on the Perfect Will of Almighty God in all things. I haven't had the heart to follow much (if any) of the Church's news, etc. because it has all been utterly heartbreaking and I couldn't douse myself in that pool with any benefit. Funny how the fire and zeal goes out of one during times of trial! Of all the blogs I used to interact with, Vox Cantoris was my favourite. I also remember with fondness your comments which, in hindsight, were very apt and discerning - although not many here gave you the bouquets I felt you deserved for your courage in spelling out uncomfortable truths! May God bless and keep you, Peter! And also Vox for his perseverance in upholding the Faith in the best way known to him!
Glory to the Holy Trinity - and to the Blessed Mother and all the Holy ones in Heaven - Maranatha Lord Jesus
please come soon! Yours in JMJ - Eirene x

Cardinal Caffarra revealed before he died that he was being “watched” and “his communications were being intercepted” by the Vatican. http://callmejorgebergoglio.blogspot.ie/2017/09/francis-paranoid-tin-pot-dictator.html
