What do you mean you "don't remember the footnote!"

Pope Francis doesn't remember the footnote!

Jean-Marie Guenois (Le Figaro): I had the same question, but it’s a complementary question because you wrote this famous ‘Amoris Laetitia’ on the problems of the divorced and remarried (footnote 351). Why put something so important in a little note? Did you foresee the opposition or did you mean to say that this point isn’t that important?
Pope Francis: One of the recent popes, speaking of the Council, said that there were two councils: the Second Vatican Council in the Basilica of St. Peter, and the other, the council of the media. When I convoked the first synod, the great concern of the majority of the media was communion for the divorced and remarried, and, since I am not a saint, this bothered me, and then made me sad. Because, thinking of those media who said, this, this and that, do you not realize that that is not the important problem? Don’t you realize that instead the family throughout the world is in crisis? Don’t we realize that the falling birth rate in Europe is enough to make one cry? And the family is the basis of society. Do you not realize that the youth don’t want to marry? Don’t you realize that the fall of the birth rate in Europe is to cry about? Don’t you realize that the lack of work or the little work (available) means that a mother has to get two jobs and the children grow up alone? These are the big problems.  I don’t remember the footnote, but for sure if it’s something general in a footnote it’s because I spoke about it, I think, in ‘Evangelii Gaudium.’

Shall we remind the Bishop of Rome?

351 In certain cases, this can include the help of the sacraments. Hence, “I want to remind priests that the confessional must not be a torture chamber, but rather an encounter with the Lord’s mercy” (Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium [24 November 2013], 44: AAS 105 [2013], 1038). I would also point out that the Eucharist “is not a prize for the perfect, but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak”

Amoris Laetitia is dead. It is a disgrace. It is a worthless document that must be denounced.

The fact that he cannot remember the footnote in question reveals that he probably didn't even read the final product.

What kind of malefactors has he surrounded himself with?

What a pathetic joke!

Vox, Amoris Laetitia is dead in the following sense: The Exhortation's mind-boggling length has rendered the document unreadable to 99 percent of Catholics (and non-Catholics). Unfortunately, the reality is that "nobody" read Vatican documents. People certainly won't read a 60,000 word Papal document.

It is unbelievable that once upon a time, a Papal document such as Mit Brennender Sorge could be powerful in its content, yet compact to the point that it could be read from the pulpit during Mass.

Unfortunately, His Holiness Pope Francis has rendered his two Encyclicals and two Apostolic Exhortations unreadable to the majority of Catholics. That is too bad as even Pope Francis' fiercest critics have acknowledged that the Exhortation is filled overwhelmingly with beautiful, orthodox teachings.

We need desperately to read/hear those teachings as the family is in crisis throughout the world. However, at some 60,000 words, Amoris Laetitia will remain all but unread throughout the Church.

The key to strengthening Catholic families is via the Liturgy. From there, everything will flow that in required to strengthen families. Unfortunately, throughout the the Latin Church, the collapse of the Roman Liturgy has fueled in great measure the collapse of Catholic families. The greatest thing that His Holiness Pope Francis could do for Catholic families is to work to restore the TLM to altars throughout the Latin Church.

I realize that the overwhelming amount of Latin Catholics have z-e-r-o interest in the TLM as they have been taught during the past 50 or so years to despise the "old" Church and Mass.

But suppose that the TLM were offered at least once each Sunday in each Latin Rite parish. Suppose that bishops and priests ceased to bash the "old" Church and Mass. Suppose that bishops and priests instead attempted to instill within the Latin Church Faithful love for Holy Tradition.

If all of the above proved true, then perhaps within 10...15 years (sooner I would hope) perhaps some 15...20 percent of Catholics would have embraced the TLM. Even such a low percentage, speaking relatively, of Catholics as that at TLMs would strengthen family life considerably throughout the Latin Church.

Enough with Vatican light shows, seeing as to how many Churchmen can wedge into compact cars, interviews with atheists who don't take notes...

We need Pope Francis to focus intently...akin to a light show laser...upon strengthening the Roman Liturgy.

Wonder if "new mercy " applies to Ecclesiastes who are in "irregular unions"

Unfortunately, the response of many to AL is predictable. They'll take the 1984 option. "Don't you see, the Church has always allowed Communion for public adulterers. Nothing to see here, folks. Move along." They never reach that point of syllogistic disjunction where they have to bite the bullet. They just delve themselves a little deeper down the rabbit hole.
"Pastoral" is the ace of trumps in the Novus Ordo theology. Anything is possible, anything can be affirmed, under the guise of its being "pastoral." This all-excusing ruse permits infinite leniency, distortion of doctrine to the point of heresy and the rationalization of any exceptions. It's become an art form; a wave of deception; the vehicle of Novus Ordite pseudo-charity, pseudo-mercy and pseudo-Catholicism. How trite and tiresome this threadbare scheme! This wave is taking most of the institutional Church along with it and when it recedes, only a tiny remnant of strong Catholic rocks will be left behind.

It could be that he didn't write the unimportant (to him) theological parts, and trusts Schonborn. Perhaps he is focused on what he thinks is important, pastoral and social issues, and leaves the theology to the theologians. - M Parks

The thoughts (opinions) of PF expounded in AL do not coincide with those of Jesus Christ and barefacedly go against the sixth & ninth commandments. In fact it makes it appear, as is the opinion of Fr. Antonio Spadaro, that the CC has got it wrong for 1,600 years and is now in a race against time to put everything in order. The meeting with Patriarch Krill & the lesbian Lutheran Archbishop of Uppsala & Primate of the Church of Sweden has laid the foundations for forthcoming communion with these schismatic churches. The intended Synod on Ordination will probably accept a married priesthood along with ways of vastly increasing women's contribution in the CC - Deaconship & followed in time with full ordination.

If PF & Hierarchy do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God and Second Person of the Holy Trinity who came on earth to die for our sins in order that we could be redeemed, then they should exit the Seat of Peter forthwith. The Catholic Church was founded by Him on the First Apostles and no other church can claim unbroken succession to them & therefore to Him. What these usurpers are proposing does not come from God but from another source, demonic in nature. Their Modernist plans will not work as we have the assurance that the Gates of Hell shall not prevail, and Christ will be with His Church until the end of time.

I eagerly await Bishop Schneider's take on AL which, it has been reported, he is working on.

M Parks sais..."It could be that he didn't write the unimportant (to him) theological parts, and trusts Schonborn. Perhaps he is focused on what he thinks is important, pastoral and social issues, and leaves the theology to the theologians."

That is possible.

I accept the Pope's word. What I admit is unsettling is that Cardinal Schonborn had discussed the footnote during his presentation of Amoris Laetitia to the news media. From the first seconds that Rome released Amoris Laetitia, controversy within and without the Church had raged in regard to the footnote. Pope Francis was unaware of that? He was unaware of the countless words that had been written and uttered in regard to the footnote? I guess that he was.

But Pope Francis referred us to Cardinal Schonborn to obtain the correct understanding of the Exhortation. Again, Cardinal Schonborn discussed the footnote. Did Pope Francis even watch/listen to Cardinal Schonborn's presentation of Amoris Laetitia? Perhaps he didn't. That may well be the case.

Pope Francis may simply have tapped Cardinal Schonborn, in whom he has great confidence, to present the Exhortation and left things at that.

In answer to some of the ponderings above.

A) the "papal exhortation" is understood to have been written at least in part by Archbishop Victor Manuel Fernández of Tiburnia, "Francis' ghostwriter", also responsible for the baffling Laudato Si. This is the document which Sandro Magister told us had - in its original form - no chance of receiving the approval of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith.

Fernandez is otherwise best known for his seminal work, the theological powerhouse, "Heal Me With Your Mouth: The Art of Kissing". A knowledgeable priest.

B) Cardinal Schönborn is far from orthodox. It is said (surprise, surprise) that he already permits the reception of the Blessed Sacrament by those in an objective state of grave sin within his diocese (following a 'period of discernment', of course). Source: www.lifesitenews.com/blogs/vatican-website-miquotes-pope-francis-on-communion-for-the-divorced-and-rem

Then there is his support for sodomitical unions: "We can and we must respect the decision to form a union with a person of the same sex, [and] to seek means under civil law to protect their living together with laws to ensure such protection... Who are we to judge and say that there are no elements of TRUTH and SANCTIFICATION in [those relationships]?"

And we should never EVER forget the blasphemous Hrdlicka funeral, and the patronage of this most despicable and satanic Communist by the Vienna diocese under Schönborn.

In short, I'll bet Francis has "great confidence" in Schönborn, Mark Thomas. I don't. I think a large part of Christ's Church Militant is in the hands of wicked men serving another master, and that we the faithful are being played for the weak, emasculated, pandering fools we continually demonstrate overselves to be. We will each one day have to answer for our custodianship.
