Salt + Light C.E.O. slags LifeSiteNews

Once again, the head of Salt + Light, Your Catholic Channel of Hope has found it necessary to harshly criticise the good people, Catholic and non-Catholic at LifeSiteNews. This time in the B.C. Catholic:
"...American bishops are upset about the division it has caused in the Church. "One of the American cardinals asked me where the headquarters was and I said, `It's somebody's basement in the Ottawa Valley.' He thought it was a tower in downtown Toronto, so it's extremely deceiving."

"...a study of Catholic blogs involving non-Catholics and non-Christians looking at Catholic blogs found they were filled with "filth, hate, conjecture, and innuendo." He added some blogs attempt to claim they are official, using the Vatican crest or a picture of the Pope."

"...American bishops are upset about the division it has caused in the Church. "One of the American cardinals asked me where the headquarters was and I said, `It's somebody's basement in the Ottawa Valley.' He thought it was a tower in downtown Toronto, so it's extremely deceiving."

"Some blogs have coarsened Catholic dialogue in the past years: the anti-Obama Catholic blogs; the so-called pro-life blogs, that may be advocating pro-life, but they are decimating persons and reputations..."
You're a grown-up Catholic.

Read it all yourself.

You decide. d

Why do priests even need to be lectured about "the Internet"?

Don't they have more important things to do?

Notice he calls LSN a "blog".

I thought LSN was headquartered in Toronto at the Campaign Life offices, not "someone's basement in the Ottawa valley". Is Fr. Rosica being deliberately misleading here?

Anyone who has gone on record as stating they do not like it when priests refer to themselves as Catholic, can hardly be considered a proper judge of a good Catholic blog:

Here from LifeSite's Facebook page is their answer:

LifeSiteNews.com We have an office in Front Royal, Virginia, and some of our fundraising administrative work is handled at the Bond St. office. However, our staff are scattered across the West, including across Canada, the U.S., Italy, Mexico, and France, and mostly work from home.

And;

LifeSiteNews.com
LSN did start as a Canadian organization, with the two founders working at the time for Campaign Life at the Bond St. office. However, we found that as an international organization we needed writers all over the place to cover all the issu...es, which made it impossible to gather them together into one major "head office." Additionally, not renting out a major facility for a head office saves us hundreds of thousands of dollars every year. Our office in Front Royal is a humble affair, but it's all we need to handle the administration related to our U.S. operations.

A history of LSN is a great idea, and we have been pondering doing one. It's on our (rather lengthy) to-do list.

So, is it true and what if?

Or is the statement misleading and belittling?

You're a grown up Catholic now and in spite of what some clericalists in the "official" Catholic media what you to do, you can read it for yourself and you can decide.

I was under the impression that those who originated LSN where from Barry's Bay (or environs) which is in the Diocese of Pembroke and definitely in "The Valley"...which also happens to be not far fromm where I am, so I bear no malice whatsoever!

Fr. Rosica's bullseye on LSN is more than tiresome.

Just read the article from LSN about this woman blazing about D&P, etc.... I am very supportive Archbishop T. Prendergast but what really pained me was to see this woman using the ambo for her political ends. It says very clearly in GIRM that "from the ambo only the readings, the Responsorial psalm, and the Easter Proclamation are to be proclaimed; it may be used also for giving the Homily and for announcing the I tensions of the Prayer of the Faithful. The dignity of the ambo requires that only a minister of the word should go up to it" (309). Why are we allowing people to use the ambo in such disrespectful ways? And, also, it is Lent so just wondering why the Easter candle is in the sanctuary? This should be checked out.

Just read the article about 'this woman' blasting about LSN and I'm very supportive of Archbishop Prendergast. Some of our leaders do stand tall. However, what pained me was to see the ambo being used for political purposes. It says very clearly in GIRM that "From the ambo only the readings, the Responsorial psalm, and the Easter Proclamation are to be proclaimed; it may also be used for giving the Homily and for announcing the intentions of the Prayer of the Faithful. The dignity of the ambo requires that only a minister of the word should go up to it" (309). And should the Easter candle be in the sanctuary during Lent???

A most Christian thing is to attack the point, rather than the person. "Taliban Catholics" as a definition or description hardly advances the debate. Once again, I congratulate Vox on his excellent blog and upholding of charity.
